I'm in agony aunt rug

I'm in agony aunt rug
Being the type of chap who likes to plan ahead I thought I would get my post Christmas panic in early this year and not wait until the festivities are upon us, so here we go.

My worry is that Harry is not likely to be playing Nugent until he is suspiciously near 40 if ever at all, what will we do whence that African Nations Cup has it's effect in January 2008?

Davis does not seem to be the prolific goal scorer we need and I do not believe we can rely on our Herman Hreidarsson to pick up the slack. I further my fret intensity on the flimsy evidence that we are likely to lose Muntari, Diop, Utaka, Mvuemba, Traore & Kanu to this tournament and who can blame them for wanting to represent their respective countries.

Now you pompeyrug attempted to poor oil on my troubled waters by noting that Benji is not going to the African nations cup but to you agony Aunt Rug I say pah! I say again pah! My ability to worry far outweighs your feeble attempt at logic.

We all know Benji is partial to the odd muscle strain so lets just say he gets a thigh strain on that bog of a training pitch we have, you know the one that does for somebody over the post holiday fixtures every year.

So what is the answer tell me? Play Nugent now so he gets match sharp and maybe a little confidence?

Sell him in January and buy someone we actually intend to play, add another striker, Defoe and Crouch are permanently mentioned, or do we do nothing and plummet back to 9th place again?

Now I've got that off my chest I can go back to a good nights lack of sleep, bliss.

remain focused and positive - nuge will get his chance, benji will remain free from injury during this time frame and krunchie could help fill a void, then of course there is the likely arrival of a new striker in january anyway - this is my advice to you russ, if you would like further help or advice phone the speical helpline set up for people with similar worries to yourself :-) p.s mvuemba wont be going anywhere either tho will he...

I think you have to stay positive through the times ahead that may now look troubled. We will still put out a great first team: James, Herman, Distin, Campbell, Johnson, Taylor, Mendes, Davis, Hughes, Benji and Nugent. Also remember that we play Man U and Chelsea in this period so are unlikely to gain too many points anyway. I think we will still be in for a good European shout by the end of Feb!

What with Mvuemba being French and all...!
16/10/2007 11:12:00
im the eternal optimist me, so i will be positive through this period, but i will also be epxecting something from chelski tbh...

Sneakay....I'd hate to hear you being NEGATIVE...!!!! You said "Also remember that we play Man U and Chelsea in this period so are unlikely to gain too many points anyway." Maybe this is about expectation management but in any sport you have to believe you can win. Let's hope whichever team Harry puts out has the will and the belief to at least take the game to United and Chelsea. Up and at 'em boys!!!!!!

Why buy him and not play him?? Got to give him a run out, more than just the odd 10 mins at the end of a game.

he hasnt played at the same level as the rest of the squad, and he clearly takes time to settle in to places (the fact that he took so long deliberating whether to move or not). Now he is here, i see him wanting to fight for his place, and if he does well in training, then im sure harry will play him. points from chelski will be important. they will show the side maturing, and help if come the end of the season, we are placed abut the same as them - which i expect. as for mvuemba...well, zidane is algeriean, and he played for france...and there are plenty of people from the cote di-voir who play for france (well, in rugby anyway)...who says it cant work backwards ;-)

actually chaps my understanding is Mvuemba does have dual nationality and with the games he has played he can play in the ANC.either way he is not a regular starter or scorer. My point is if HR thinks the mid field first choice players are the way to go now, that will not change in January's time. And as a club we have not resolved the striker issue, Krunchie ( whome i think is a great prospect) is not a regular goal scorer, nor the evil Davis, i think Herman may be equal to or ahead of Utaka in the scoring league, so we haven't got a regular scorer who wont be off to Africa. The sentiments of Pompey4 me about Nugent seem more relevant than ever he Nugent, like pompey4me will only get match sharp by playing matches. So i will try to remain positive aunt rug but so far this season we have still not resolved the striker issue.

and my worries will persist, although i think we may be able to strangle a point out of chelski
16/10/2007 19:55:00
just imagine what e could do if we did solve our striker issue...

Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!

Match highlights - Pompey 1-2 Notts County

What a disappointment that was! The 1st half wasn't bad, in fact large chunks of it were good but the 2nd half was just woeful with a soft centred Pompey beaten 2-1 by Notts County.
