O'Brien trots off to Bolton

O'Brien trots off to Bolton
Bolton Wanderers have secured the defender on a two year deal for an undisclosed fee.

O'Brien joined from Newcastle as one of Alain Perrin's summer signings. He quickly became a regular until Harry Redknapp's return. With the acquisition of new defenders including Sol Campbell, O'Brien found his position in the squad diminish, with Linvoy Primus also having the best season of his career to date.

I always found him to be reliable and professional, indeed I have said on these Vital pages; that I have been impressed with his Pre-Season performances.

However, this releases for money into the kitty and helps to balance our books further, after our heavy spending this summer.

people can say what they want about o'brien but he has been brilliant even tho he knew he has been a dead man walking for ages - he has never one moaned in public, never demanded a place in the team or a move, some of these other prima donnas around could learn a thing or 2 from him... tbh ive not really ever been that taken by him, but like you penton i was well impressed with him this pre season, yep the oppo wasnt great but he did a fine job and always looked interested. ideally it would have been good to keep him just incase but he wouldnt have played would he and when all is said and done the books need balancing dont they, so i would rather he went than someone else that we would really need to keep. good luck to the fella tho, tbh i think he might need it as bolton could be in for a long old season...

Agreed rug; I have the utmost respect for him, he has the one thing that most players today seem to lack...dignity, don't ever remember any mud slinging, slagging off to the press. He disappeared for months and then when called upon just got on with it. Good luck to the man!

You'd think Sammy Lee had signed a world class central defender the way he described O'Brien upon signing him. I really think Lee will be lucky to be in a job by the end of October the way he is signing Premiership reserves up at the moment. The Newcastle game should have been a huge wake up call. That said I'll be putting 5 on O'Brien to score against us.

Sorry to see AOB go played a crucial role in the Great Escape - opposite Steve McQueen. Always gave 100%. Good Luck,

Main man for Pompey? I wouldn't think so

Harsh? Maybe, but do I really feel ex-Middlesbrough, Doncaster and Oldham forward Main will be in Pompey's 1st team, becoming a key member of Jackett's starting XI? Well, no.

Interest in Plymouth midfielder? Unfortunately not

Apparently, having stolen the League Two title from Plymouth, we'll not be taking the Pilgrims' best player, ex-Celtic midfielder Carey, currently out-of-contract at Home Park.
