What is most important in your manager?

What is most important in your manager?
Pompeytim, with his forum post originally (here), asks this...

Hello folks,

Our man Cotts drew out lots of different opinions.

I took the view that he was an arrogant nob. I thought his football was generally dull. However I felt that any manager needs time.

Now that he has gone, I see a lot of Different suggestions for the next manager. Some suggestions I don't understand, some I do.

It made me wonder what was most important to people in their manager.

Well these are just a few suggestions as to what people might be looking at in 'the gaffer', with Tim offering up these opinions...

Attacking football (even if leaking a few)
Personality / charisma
Youth development skills
Track record with other clubs
Attachment to the club (eg ex-player)
Nationality (I.e. English)
Big name in the game

Majority of fans want Dave Jones, Dave Jones got Cardiff to the playoffs, got Cardiff to the FA Cup final, got Wolves to the Premier League, so a very good Championship track record. He Plays entertaining attackive football and I think he would love the job and turn our on-paper quality to on-pitch quality as a team. He is the only one to go for!

i would not say 'the only one to go for' Nut but i think he is a decent, very decent, option - the 'scum' connection will be hard for some tho...
football costs me a bloody lot of money, both in terms of ticket costs and travel, so for all this i want to be entertained - so i would like my manger to send the players out to entertain us, that is what football is meant to be about isnt it?
yep you might conceed some goals but if you are good enough to will score more!

in answering the OP - i would also say that industry contacts should be a priority. we are still a tarnished club and someone with friends in higher places/clubs to persuade other managers for players/loanees may be beneficial. as for DJ - i remember watching him earlier on in the season touting us for possible promotion - so he believed our team was good enough then!

Eddie Howe for me - knows the club - young and hungry - just a bit too soon for him after joining Burnley which in my view is a shame. he comes across well, sets sides up in an attacking fashion, seems to have an eye for a player. He hasnt set the world alight yet at Burnley but I think he will do it. Look at what Nigel Clough has done at Derby - he was a non league manager when he moved so I dont neccesarily buy into the big name and track record (in the champ or above anyway) bit. For me its more about character, determination, common sense, intelligence, being well grounded and passing football.
