'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Chew The Fat With Chix - June 9th

Jeez it is Thursday already ?

Well if it is we must be due another session of Chew The Fat on Vital Pompey !

Tonight, as with every Thursday at around 7:30pm I will be live on-line to discuss the topics of the week ... and tonight as a tempter I may just let you into a little secret about a little competition we are thinking a launching throughout the Summer on Vital Pompey .

Those that have taken part in any of the previous Chew The Fats will no doubt testify that a lively debate always ensues both on the front page but mainly in the forums.

So why not join in with me 'on the spot' to respond to your thoughts, comments and opinions on the issues of the week, hopefully with a bit of fun, banter, controversy and maybe even one of my many humorous anecdotes thrown in for good measure as well.

As always I'll be happy to discuss all things Pompey however tenuous, so just toss in the topic you want to chat about and we will take it from there.

..although I somehow think we might get sidetracked into discussing the takeover and the deafening silence that is now emanating out of the Fratton Park Corridors.

So if you`ve nothing better to do join me only on Vital Pompey, on this article and in the forums for what is always a lively debate.

Alternatively, if you are unable to join in at 7:30 tonight but want to add to the debate why not throw in your two penneth worth right now?

Wont be able to join until later if at all, but I've a question Chixy; I haven't seen a pointless ,numpty, wholly irrelevant statement from the Trust for about 3 days now; have i missed something?
Evening All
Well another week has past and what have we got on our minds..
A few cooments in the forum already so I'm gonna flick over there for a mo .. But I'll be back .. Or better still flip over there and join in...
I haven't ignored your comment .. But I'll come back to it later in the evening
8:40 and some good points being raised in the forum .. About 'The News' .. David Norris NOT being 'nailed on'.. The silence around Fratton Park.. And the opinions of 'supporters groups' .... Hop across and have a look .. Better still join in..
Just to try and get this thread rolling, this season was my first season as a season ticket holder. i've renewed for next season. However, I'm finding that I am really missing the whole fratton park matchday experience. Whenever I watch football of any kind at the moment, I just think of a game sat in my seat at Portsmouth and I really miss it. It is like I am recovering from an addiction or something. I've not really experienced anything like it before.
You'll be pleased (or not) that it never goes away.. Get ready for one of my ancedotes..
I've been a season ticket on and off (more on) for years .. And I hardly miss a match (one or two per season) .. About three christmases ago my beloved wife said that I had to attend a family party in London.. And it clashed with a Pompey game ..
So begrudingly .. I agreed (gotta keep the piece) and I gave my ticket to one of my mates.. But ...
Oh no...
the party got cancelled for some reason and I was stuck without a ticket .. I could hardly ask for it back ...
Oh no...
Oh no...
Sorry for the repeated posting
So I got a ticket for the North Stand Lower.. And spent the entire game looking at my seat .. And my mate sat in it.... You see after a while it not only becomes the match experience .. It becomes the match experience from YOUR own seat and nothing else is the same ...
As for getting the bug .. There was an occassion when I decided not to go because of a girl... (fool or what) .. I shuffled around all morning and was obvioulsy not happy .. At about 2:45 I decided to make a cup of tea .. But we had no milk .. So I went to the corner shop to buy some...
I haven't experienced that before but I can see myself being really possessive over my seat. i reffed down on the Fratton park pitched a couple of weekends back in a mini tournament and I went up and sat in MY seat at the top of the Fratton end on my break (althought hat was mainly to hide from a very angry manager from Havant and Waterlooville). I must have looked like a complete knob but I just felt happier sat in MY seat.
.. What you don't know is that I used to live in Byerley Road .. Literally five mins from the Park .. So I pooped out to Kens (the cornor shop) got my milk and then suddenly got 'pulled' into Fratton (pay on the gate days!) by the 'experience .. I returned home at about 4:55 .. with the milk..
.. Girlfriend not best please .. Apparently she was 'worried' .. Well needless to say another relationship went by the wayside as a result of my devotion to Pompey ..
hahahaha I would hope I wouldn't put friends/girlfriend before football but I'm not sure.
That make me laugh.. The vital editorial team got invited to a meal and hospitality last season by the 'very nice man' Johnny Moore (top bloke) .. Well not only did I complain about sitting in the posh seats... I had Eastneydave take a picture of my seat from the centre spot before the game... So I'm with you fella .. what part of the ground are you in ..
Harmony in personal life v Pompey .. many many battles on that front.. like how you have to convince your wife that her being a bridesmaid at her life long friends wedding.. isn't as important as seeing Pompey at Wembley .. I went to Wembley ...
Obviously ..
I'm sat (well stood really) high up in the centre of the fratton end behind the goal. the reason we sat up there was because we reasoned that if the football was crap, the atmosphere up there would make up for it. 10 rows behind the drums.
I've gotta pick up on Russellm's first post about the fact that he hasn't heard any drivvel from The Trust this week .. He wondered if he'd missed anything..
So.. row.. HH ? seat 82 I reckon... I bet I'm not far out
Re The Trust .. I did see an 'advert' for their new T-shirts... And I'm sorry Trust Members .. I have to ask this question..
Why are they selling T-Shirts.. Oh to raise money I hear you cry ... To use on what I say.. To cover expenses of running The Trust they'd claim .. But wasn't that what the 5 membership fee was for ?.. I ask... Ah yes...
Very close chix. Row GG seat 70! Good seats as they are right next to the aisle too.
.. And not only that .. Have you seen them ?... Jeez .. Design is ***** poor and as for it being poor to keep the prices down.. When I did the T-Shirts for Vital .. I charged a 5 a piece and the designs were excellent .. Sold 100 in a week and could have sold a lot lot more ... shame we only did two really .. but I've still got mine...
Not far from me Jake .. I sit in 'big knockers'
Sorry .. lowered the tone.. Apologies ladies .. My seat is 46DD
So you have your Season Ticket renewed .. What are looking forward to most next season ?
haha Thats around midway to the left of the goal isn't it (If you're sat behind it)?
Spot on .. just to the left .. above the crossbar.. best seats in the house I reckon.. Never gonna give 'em up.. not for a friends wedding,, bottle of milk or anything..
I'm looking forward to the Southampton derby matches. I have never been to one so to go to two could be brilliant. I'm not sure if we'll be able to get tickets to the ST marys one though, it depends. I'm also looking forward to seeing the effect these russians are going to have and the players we are going to bring in.
Believe me .. The Scummers matches will be something else.. This time around.. And for the first time in a while we will (hopefully) be evenly matched .. One of my best Pompey moments was seeing us beat them 2-0 at the Dell when we were in the old first division, and one of my worst was seeing us lose 1-0 at home in the cup to a 89th minute goal .. I've never heard Fratton Park so silent as it was on the way out .. big games indeed .. I can't wait .. and Brighton too.. and Blackpool away .. worth a visit in anybodies book
As for the new signings .. I am also excited but it is gonna cause me shed loads of work.. I keep files on every Pompey player past and present and the thought of researching the careers of (at least) 10 new signings in one go is gonna take me forever.. Still it's a labour of love and something I've done for years.. can't (and won't) give up now
hahaha For your sake hopefully the russians don't splash the cash too much. Is that every pompey player as in reserve and first team
The effect of The Russians... Now that will be interesting.. But we must remember there is only one Russian .. And a Hungarian .. Who went to School in Russia .. Oh and and Englishman of course ...
.. Every Pompey first team.. reserve.. youth .. and even the odd trialist thrown in.. if you were to name one I'd have something on them... even have some data from the first ever games Pompey played .. When I do biogs I prefer writing about players that nobody has ever heard of .. trouble is people tend not to read them as they have never heard of them.. !!
hahaha it sounds like the beginning of a joke. I do hope it isn't though...
My favorite piece was on a guy called Jimmy McAlinden .. I even got a mesage from his grandson telling me that he'd learnt a lot about his grandad that he didn't know .. Also spent three weeks researching a bloke (John Ateyo) who only ever played for us once.. but was a Bristol City legend... got a mention in City's matchday programme for that .. So it is worthwhile
hahaha blimey. How far do your records go back?
As far back as Pompey goes back... All the way to 1898 ... Although a lot of the very early stuff is sparce I do have teamsheets.. Fixtures scores etc.. And most profiles on the players... From 1920 - 1939 I have about 90% of profiles and 'virtual' scrapbooks on most .. from 1945 onwards .. I don't think there's one I haven't got something on..
Should get out more I suppose lol ... But I split my free time between Pompey and Music .. And my family.. Got two young girls .. It's an art but I reckon I get the balance right .. I jsut wish they were old enough to type and they could do a lot of it for me lol
Right's getting to that time where I take a break .. I'm gonna watch that 'injustice' thing I recorded earlier .. But I'll be back in a hour or so to sweep-up.. .. As a taster.. iof you're not around them ... Look out for 'The Gristle' .. An addition to 'Chew The Fat' which will follow over the weekend and focus on something that was letover from tonight...
What've you got on Harry Abbott, Chix?
