Chew The Fat With Chix - May 19th

I am back this evening for another round of Chew The Fat on Vital Pompey !

As is becoming the norm at around 7:30pm every Thursday I will be live on-line to discuss the topics of the week.

Nothing special, just me on line to respond 'on the spot' to your thoughts, comments and opinions on the issues of the week, hopefully with a bit of fun, banter and controversy thrown in as well.

As always I'll be happy to discuss all things Pompey however trivial or important, so just toss in the topic you want to chat about and we will take it from there.

How about ..

The News are you like me getting totally sick to the teeth with the way our local rag reports on P.F.C - I'm no expert but I reckon even I could do a better job given the resources and contacts they supposedly have .. What about you ?

How about your thoughts on the recently announced Chelsea friendly. Will you be going or will you not spend your hard earned cash on what may turn out to be a practice match for Chelsea reserves. Come and share your thoughts

Or maybe you want to air your view on the latest takeover speculation - Just for a change .

The bottonm line is that if you've nothing better to do join me only on Vital Pompey, on this article but mainly in the forums for what promises to be a lively debate.

I might even throw in the odd Quiz Question too !

Alternatively, if you are unable to join in at 7:30 but want to add to the debate why not throw in your two penneth worth right now?

Or .. Maybe you want to have your view on which Premier League Club will join West Ham in being relegated on Sunday.. Who would you like to see at Fratton next season
Chix
Dearest Chix,
Pompey are known for having very vocal fans, but we are also mocked for having a very small repertoire that we perform. My question to you is; Why do you think Pompey fans have such trouble getting new chants into the ground? Plus when we do, they are just the chant of players names sung to old chants.
Sneakay
Welcome !
Well good evening people .. Given the season is over I'm expecting a quiet night tonight .. So I've poured myself a substantail glass of red and am sat back waiting for your thoughts and comments..
Chix
Well .. What do you know.. No sonner have I taken a sip them Sneakay Kicks us off with a cracker of a question.. And something I have been vocal ('cuse the pun) about on many occassions..
Chix
Before I respond I will just mention that I have, in the past tried to get many a new song going at Fratton... The Mokoena Chant I started the first match he played took ages to kick off and when it (eventually) did it was changed (fair enough) by the masses to make it easier to remember...
Chix
My Armand Traore song from a few years back was (in my honest opinion) a cracker .. When he flies down the wing and he cross one in .. That's Traore.. On the head of Defoe in the back of the goal... That's Traore... .. But did it take off .. Nah .. Somebody joked that there was 'too much to learn' .. but for christsake the Scoucers sing whole verses to songs and seem to remember them..
Chix
I can tell ya that the invention of new songs is not something that Pompey fans suffer from the problem is getting them known .. And to get then known you have to make people hear .. But how ... Controversial point coming up ....
Chix
.. When the majority of lone voices .. And that's what it is initally .. Get drowned out by Westwood and his merry band of drummers banging out the same old 'tunes'.. Over and over and over again .. I say 'tunes' because they are generally no words to the 'music (lol) that accompanies them ..
Chix
I've nothing against MR PFC and his followers generally.. but we do pay a price for the atmosphere they create ..
Chix
perhaps the only person who thinks your songs are good is you ..come on even you thought that mokena was crap in fact it was worse than than
sea-juicer
Some people have used the argument that all seater stadia doesn't lend itself to groups getting together and starting new chants which I agree with to a certain extent .. But ...
Chix
Some people have used the argument that all seater stadia doesn't lend itself to groups getting together and starting new chants which I agree with to a certain extent .. But ...
Chix
It doesn't inhibit fans of other clubs starting new songs.. And getting them going ..
Chix
Let's be honest, most clubs fans here another clubs chant and adapt it, such as Hello, hello we are the Portsmouth Boys......first sung by Utd I think. We manage to get those into the ground ok, but having our own special chants is what makes the fans great and makes many people laugh the first time they hear them.
sneakay
Sea-Juicer
Whether my 'Mokoena' song (or him himself) was crap or not is irrelevant .. The fact of the matter is that is was adopted in time.. The question Sneakay asked was about the fact that we are loud but boring in the songs we sing.. Even you must admit it gets a bit tedious at time hearing the same old songs over and over and over again.. In fact I reckon we'd be hard pushed to name 10 songs that are sung at Fratton on a regular basis..
Chix
.. And that's not 'Stand up if you hate the Scum nine times.. & 'Play up Pompey'
Chix
Also next question. Football kits. Is it wrong that clubs release a new football kit each year? Really? At the end of the day it is an item of clothing for many people that gets worn more times than a lot of other things in our wardrobes. You don't here people complaining that Ralph Lauren has just released a new shirt with slightly different buttons two months later, or that Nike have knocked out another pair of trainers in a different colour only 6 months since the last pair.
sneakay
Hi Chixy, q1 I'm on a large glass of excellent 07 Burgundy what are you drinking? Q2, I'm bored of the old anti stains songs, I feel they are backward, boring, a touch moronic and reflect badly on the club- oh- apart from the ever pleasant " 4-1 in your own backyard". However as we are to be receiving 6 points from that lot down the road this season ( pls pls pls) Westy's boring chants are likely to be heard again; how do we move on? Should we try? So 3 questions in fact.
russellm
Hang fire with the kits for a mo Sneakay I wanna pick up on Russellm points first .. But I have jotted on the wipeboard so I don't forget (lol)
Chix
russellm. Just to add that I am on my third large glass of Wolf Blass Chardonnay. Will probably move onto Shiraz after this one. 07 Burgundy hey. Very Classy. You should check out my Blog. www.theaverageplonker.blogspot.com not that I have really gotten going on it yet. Looking for input if anyone wants to help?

First of the wine.. I've no idea mate .. Comes in a box from Waitrose is as much as I know.. It's soft and friuty thouh.. And makes a pleasant change from Stella ... Anyway ..my take on Scummer songs is this .. If they are relevant i.e. We are playing them soon.. an ex-Scummer is playing against us so on and so forth .. then I have no problem with them whatsoever.. My issue is your your second point .. and to be fair touches back to Sneakay original question... The issue (other than the irrelevance) of anti-scummer songs is the boring boring repetitive nature of them.. I must have lost count how many times I've heard (or sung about) that 'poor little sparrow' .. it got to the point that I actually feel sorry for him now
Chix
Pompey Till I die . Stand up if you hate the scum. Scummer Scummer. your Mokaena song. eieio up the football league we go. He A Sad B***tard with Sh*t football team. Dave Kemp song . Lets all have a diso. Play up Pompey. 2-0 to the referee. SC Blue & White army. Shall we sing a song for you. is that all you take away. Ok A few chants in there & i probally missed a couple of obvious one i think at any club they only have a couple of original song all the other are adapted to each team
sea-juicer
Q5, pt1 seeing all the coming togetherness in Dublin - why can't they bloody manage it in glasgow? ptii Why does Neil Lennon get away with touch line aggression?- coming from old and new church parents, i deplore the sectarian side of things; im not surprised someone finally lumped him.

Sea-Juicer..
Good list.. And I agree with you to an extent ... But if most clubs only have a few original ones .. Other than Play up Pompey .. Where or what is ours.. And also .. Apart fro the Mokoena song (which was adapted to sound like a song from another club) what (from your list) .. hasn't been sung at Fratton Park for the past 20 years +

Sneakay
Spot-on .. But I think the originality is there at Fratton (or could be) if we didn't have to contend with the drums all the time .. I reckon given a player and a (well known) song I could come up with something by the end of the night that would make (some) laugh .. but could I get it started at Fratton .. nah.. doubt it
Chix
But on the other hand you can't knock Westwood for gettinmg the crowd goin g on occassions where it is flat. There is def something about the drums and bells that make you just wanna get behind the team.
sneakay
Just had a scout around for a few original (recent) chants .. And found these ..
Chix
Palace fans serenade Alessandro N'Diaye
"N'Diayeeeee will always love you!"
Chix
Liverpool fans for Alberto Aquilani (Lady GaGa's 'Paparazzi).
"I'm your biggest fan, I'll follow you until you love me, Aqui, Aqui Aquilani."
Chix
Man City fans to United
"""U-N-I-T-E-D ""That spells (flipping) debt to me, ""With a knick knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone, ""Ocean Finance on the phone."" "
Chix
sneakay, i agree with your point, the drums are great - the bugle not so. I just want see some originality - maybe omething a it clever/ ironic/sarcastic even. im so fed up with the stereo typical stuff and like Chixy says scousers can do it- i persume they think the songs up whlst out nicking things :-)
russellm
.. And of course .. One we'd forgotten
"""King Kanu, Kanu, ""He's older than me and you, ""His real age is 62, ""King Kanu, Kanu."""
Chix
And that's why I thought it was great when Westwood & Co were in the Milton End in the Punch & Judy box.. He still got the crowd going but it gave the Fratton End space to 'add' to it .. Rather than be supressed by it ..
Chix
Ok.. Let's move away from the songs for a mo and touch on another subject.. The News
Yep.. I'm gonna launch into a rant about the local rag..
Chix
I mentioned in the leader article that I was getitng sick and tired of The News' coverage of Pompey .. Here's what I posted in the forum earlier.. I respond to a question from ... PompeyTim
"about what gets my goat about their reporting .... If I'm honest I get *****ed more of 'how'' they report rather than what they report .. The headlines are generally sensationalise and their report rarely shows the mgmt of staff or the club itself .. in a good light... I'll pick out a few headlines from the past week or so in a mo but for me they are in the same bracket as .. Chris Moyles and Sky Sports.. and interested in their view and have rarely got off their arses and done any real journalism "
Chix
Go for it Chix. Although my attention is now split between you and Big Bang Theory followed by How I Met Your Mother on E4
sneakay
..or more so about the idiots who write the comments after the article!! Good evening all just returned from meal and a few drinks. Looks like a lively discussion going on too. Chix remember to turn off the colour after you finish I had a terrible problem last Friday trying to revert the whole front page back to black!
eastneydave
haha but it just wouldn't be Chix without bright colours now would it?
pompeym@
I dont mind the idiots who comment apart from those that bulley the others. I dont mind those that nick my names for pompey players. I sort of understand the behind "the news" sensationalise stuff - they have to sell. What is poor is the lack of back up or substance journalism and wild unsubstantiated statements. It is small town gossipy writing- and tbh the club could help the situation with Potty Cottey, he shouldnt be alowed anywhere near them without some media training.
russellm
sneakay im watching - have you I met your mother in SO4 - twice
russellm
<#7FFF00> Dave, what's up with a bit of colour?

I do agree though about the moronic bickering that follows each article. It does make me chuckle sometimes though if I am truly honest.

sneakay
whoops school boy error Hopefully that worked?
sneakay
hmpth I give up then
sneakay
There you sneakay put in the HTML wrongly which causes the problem!

I love colour but if you forget to turn it off it infects the whole ******* site!!
eastneydave
Leave it to the pro's Sneakay
Chix
.. But will turn off the colour Dave .. I promise.. Using a different system tonight ..
Chix
russell what is SO4?
sneakay
on
Chix
off
Chix
See its that easy
Chix
Anyhow .. Back to the debate.. I've forgotten where we were .. Oh yeah The News
Chix
I nust admit I find some of the comments very tedious and no more than schoolboy gibberish and slanging matches which I guess is lead by theactual articles themselves..
Chix
Chix Just depends at which level the code is working at. Think I was perhaps trying to be too clever?
sneakay
In recent weeks we've had ..
Chix
Potential Pompey Owner Says He's Only In It For The Money...
Chix
" The sad demise of the costliest youth team in Pompey’s history"
Chix
The main problem is if at work and wanting to know the latest news, and using newsnow like many people do, you will read everything simply because the club does not release much.
sneakay
Both of which .. Carried articles of a purely negative stance which (to me) lent nothing to the true position and were no more that either reporting something because something needed reporting or just stirring up the shot about the youth players that SC has let go .. FFS they even got a players name wrong .. and missed another.. it was very badly written, poorly researched and written (in my view) just to have a go a SC and mix things up..
Chix
damn sneakay howdy do that? i tried a long time ago and failed miserably lol. oh and S04 = season 4
pompeym@
I agree Sneakay but why does it have to be negative all the time.. We hear loads about the players that are leaving.. But little positive about those that are staying..
Chix
and yea i completely agree Chix, i read both of those articles cause the titles sounded like the article had something interesting in but no, both where rehashed statements from weeks before and since then i've started skim reading the quotes 1st lol. but i suppose thats how i ended up on vital in the 1st place cause there was no other decent pompey coverage
pompeym@
I've gotta have my colours Pompeym@ The World is too drab otherwise ..
Chix
It's really the only news about at the moment apart from the non-existent take over, and I guess they have to do something if they are gonna get paid.
sneakay
Cheers.. Pompeym@ I must admit that's how I ended up here many years ago.. It was the fact that there was a two sided debate on here the majority of the time and although we get the odd idiot from time to time thoughts and comments are generally well thought out and very few ever take offfence (apart from me of course !)
Chix
i think the wine's taken over ;-)
PFCblue
Yeah but the takeover broke following a 'reported' meeting that (I think) Neil Allen had in a motorway service station,, It wasTthe News that started the hype that they now slag off..
Chix
lol PFCBlue not quite yet .. But well on the way .. I must admit that at one point tonight I actually considered renaming 'Chew The Fat' to 'The Thursday Wine Club' .. Seems to have a little more class about it ..
Chix
m@ cheers. No idea what season is on E4, but it is pretty funny. As for the coloured text, it is something I have to do for work, but diferent websites use slightly diferent code. As This is not my site I don't want to mess about too much and get told off.

Dave I promise to turn my colour off.

Chix, you wanna save my shirt question for next week? Who knows, we may have a new one to talk about by then ;)

sneakay
but then again it is me .. So 'Chew The Fat' is probably a bit more appropriate..
Chix
Tell ya what Sneakay I'll run an article about it during the week.. Might open it up a bit too..
Chix
lol that wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. while we're on the takeover, i'm honestly giving up atm. i'm all for the Russians i know enough about Chris Akers to think they will do a good job. But if these rumors about the board holding off the takeover because CSI want a fresh slate from top to bottom then the the board should be shot it makes me sick to think that people that are running the club would sacrifice it for there own well being, and if something doesn't happen soon we are royally screwed
pompeym@
oh and E4's on season 6 just behind America by about 6 episodes, i know cause i've already seen em ;D lol and yea love both himym and big bang, brilliant shows imo
pompeym@
What about "Have a Wine about Pompey" lol
sneakay
Have a whine about Pompey .. Perhaps we should suggest that one to ...
Chix
Now watching Impossible? on channel 5 and the couple really really are stupid. Oh suprise, they are from Essex.
sneakay
THE NEWS

The News Chix?
sneakay
Pompeym@
The latest takeover gossip is that the additional £3m has come from within the club to prevent the takeover happening or turn fans against CSI.. [Edited by Chix]
Chix
.. As a number of staff stand to lose their jobs.. On the coaching and mgmt side ..
Chix
wow i hadn't even heard that part, very sad really if true and i'm sure it'll be the club and indeed us the fans that have to pay the ultimate price, i'm starting to get more than a little worried about the future of the club... again
pompeym@
"The night seems to fade, But the moonlight lingers on There are wonders for everyone The stars shine so bright, But they`re fading after dawn There is magic in Pompey town "
Chix
Just chilling now ...
Chix
Pompeym@
yeah me too .. It's generally just gossip .. But this came from a good source and I was even given the name of the 'staff member' who confirmed it .. See .. Back to an aerlier point .. The News should be following up on rumours like this .. And getting to the bottom of them..
Chix
One of The News journos(??) has tweeted tonight to say the CSI takeover is progressing well and they could be in by the middle of next week. Not sure on the accuracy and his source, but thought would add it to the thread.
Alty Blue
"Oh Pompey town, The place I long to be If I had the whole world I would give it away Just to see, the Boys at play Ooh, ooh, ooh "
Chix
interesting Blue, as per usually i'll believe it when i see it, but its funny how these so called sources have completely the opposite information lol
pompeym@
Alty
Cheers for the update from Twitter .. I wonder if it is the same Journo that said the takeover would be completed before Easter... That said I hope he is right ..as Pompeym@ said earlier .. We'll be screwed without some kind of takeover.. The club needs a direction.. Even if it is to stand still
Chix
Almost 100 comments tonight Chix. Thought you said it would be quiet?
sneakay
lol chix and quiet just doesn't go together really does it ;D but is a little surprising seeing as there is next to nothing to talk about the club haha, lets hope by next week we have a takeover to discuss at full length :D
pompeym@
Yeah.. Shows what I know .. Mrs Chix loves it .. She watched 90210.. The soap awards and is now catching up with two weeks worth of Hollyoaks
Chix
but I think my record on a thread was nearly 450 .. And it went on for over a week ... Remember 'Pompeycarpet' ?.. Well he just wouldn't let it lie... He wanted the last word on something and there was no way I was giving in.. I think it was about Kranjcar
Chix
I'm still on impossible and would have won £50k if I was on the show. They got £6k so far. Thickos.

A Jordan Cross tweet. He is one of the better ones from the news, and does well on match day commentary.

sneakay
M@
..wouldn't that be great .. Lots of talk about where they are gonna splash the cash.. Lots of deate about the pesky Russians who are gonna ruin us .. Speculation about Cotterill, & Co losing their jobs (hint hint hint.. to an earlier point) It'll all kick-off .. with so many differing views.. BRILLIANT !!
Chix
i seem to remember that mega topic chix and i think you might be right about it being on the lazy feck.. oops i mean Kranjcar. (what happened to carpet btw?) but used to get a good 200-300 on match days and pre seasons, was a lot of fun
pompeym@
A good shout from JC for Linvoy to be nominated to carry the olympic torch through Pompey!
sneakay
Pompeycarpet was last seen at Uni in Scotland somewhere.. With me being out of the loop for a year or so I'm not sure whether he's popped on from time to time but you are right he was a great bloke (one of the few old timers that never met) and sorely missed
Chix
Sneaks It has to be Linvoy .. Nobody else 'should' come close .. As for the torch it's staying 'overnight' in Salsibury and the date is already marked in my calendar for next year .. What a thing for me (and especially my girls) to see ..
Chix
oh right didn't realise he was that 'young' thought he was 30-40 odd, suppose its hard to tell on the net. and hell yea sneaks would love to see Linvoy carrying the torch, question is can he run that far these days ;D lol
pompeym@
Oh and m@ I wa right about Krancjar .. Or 'Donna' as I called him.. Prima-Donna... Lazy Feck sums him up nicely IMO
Chix
m@ I made you all laugh last week with a funny story.. So I'm gonna do the same again this week before I sign off..
Chix
You mentioned that you are never quite sure of people ages when chatting on-line.. Well.. I was chatting to a bloke for about a month .. Chewing the Fat about all things Pompey as is the norm.. He was up front that he didn't know much and was a self confessed JCL.. but really interested in what I knew about the history of the club and the game itself .. etc.. etc..
Chix
.. Anyhows.. Carpet (funny how a name crops up) & I designed some t-shirts for the 2008 Cup Final and this bloke said that he wanted one .. I offerred to post it but he insisted on coming to the pub I used to use before the game .. The Milton Arms (as was)
Chix
I thought nothing of it and said I'll be in the pub at my normal time along with a lot of the other VP guys and gals.. Anyway .. I PM'd him and said .. Not to worry about trying to find me .. Just look out for the big mouth at the bar drinking Stella .. to which he replies ...
Chix
the suspense between posts is killing me, type faster man! xD
pompeym@
"I'll be wearing a fur coat ... I'll stand out like a sore thumb"
Chix
.. Too right ya will mate .. I thought...
Chix
until in walked ... Gandor
Chix
Now as lovely as Gandor is .. It took me a long time to get past the fact that this bloke whom I had built up a mental image of during the past few months ...
Chix
Was a woman !!
Chix
HAHAHAHA yup that about sums up meeting ppl off the net. brilliant! ^^
pompeym@
poor gandor
pompeym@
and this is where you tell me .. You didn't knwo Gandor was a women
Chix
poor me !!
Chix
haha nope i actually did know Gandor was a women, not sure how but must have come up at some point on here
pompeym@
Seriously though... she is one of my favs on Vital.. Always willing to listen to he who knows best .. (lol) .. But talking of stories .. Gandor has had me rolling on the floor about some Spannish maids she used to employ when she ran her hotel
Chix
Right the wine box is empty and the reggee is on so I'm gonna wind down now .. I'll still be around for the next couple of hours but not as active .. so it might take a little longer to respond to any questions .. comments etc.. .. A big THANK YOU to all contributors tonight in both the forum and on the front page .. We didn't get to everything topic .. but hey .. that only gives us more for next week .. I'm off for a fag and a whisky coffee
Chix
and just for .. Eastneydave..
