Thanks for your votes regarding central defenders that sprung to my mind to assist in starting to construct the defence for my/our 'best' side since 1971.

A very clear top two -- Arjan de Zeeuw partnering Noel Blake. Between them they amassed 63% of the voting. That is fairly conclusive.

Anyone want to swap them for Mokoena and Sonko? I bet our choice had lower wages.

What I must add is no consideration was given to the question 'we must have one right and one left sided' to make the partnership. Anomalies, well personally I don't know how Mokoena got 12%, and was third favourite and further to that is a better central defender than Dejan Stefanovic by a full 10%, and Rocha did not gain any support at all so he is the full 12% worse.

Personally I was happy to see Campbell so low (sorry do I have to pay him image rights I just wrote his name). How about we all write to anyone and everyone telling them how **** he is, his image will go negative and he owes us money?

Given time I think Kaboul would have got much higher, but then of course the impending CVA saw to that.

Thanks for taking part and see you again soon.

Glad you gave everyone else a chance by leaving Linvoy out the list, and I always thought the Awfs was a good un. Great partnership with Kit.

Ti voted Arjan but should have voted for Campbell ( who I confess was one of my Pompey favourites) does not reflect the solidity, professionalism and class he brought to our defence. Technically Campbell was probably the best we ever had. Or are likely to see for a long time. Arkan represents a good guy, great personality at a positive time in the clubs life. Arjan was not better than Campbell as a defender; as a person without doubt he was; but what was the vote about, personal ability or personality? That's question strikes me as a Pompey problem in more than this vote.

Obviously that was meant to be Arjan was a good guy - not Arkan the drspicable man who committed horrific crimes against humanity and planned holocaust style anti Bosnian camps.

What about Malcolm Manley? His partnership with Paul went (until Manley's career was cut tragically short by injury) was the best I have seen during the 48 years I've been visiting Fratton Park.

Given recent times, I was surprised that Linvoy and Distin weren't involved. I'm aware Linvoy is in the Wing Back which had just finished, but in my opinion he was much better suited for center back, and Distin made Campbell look good, which in itself was a great achievement. No complaints with De Zeeuw however.

Malcolm Manley would have been included absolutely, but his very unfortunate injury was the ONLY reason he was omitted. PompeyFrippy, yes I would have had Linvoy there but I suppose feared he might get left out. As you have seen I have added him to another poll of which I do not yet know the final result. Another thought was what about Gavin Maguire???

I don't think Distin made Campbell look good, that's just not how it was to anybody he takes an honest view, besides when theyvplayed together Distin was mostly in the other half, but you have to think that Distin who excelled as captain should have been up there.

People may have guessed I don't hold with this disowning anyone who falls out with the club, one of our lowest points was that " you know who" voldermort association aimed at Redknapp. Pathetically by people who went to the FA Cup.
