Midfield Maestro's

As I said in my last article I created this poll based on the players I had seen since 1971, as such as we go through this series I am interested to see how many of the 'older' names are chosen.

Something that is very apparent to me now is that sometimes you find it difficult to understand why I have not included certain favourites of yours; chances are that they were not on my list.

I agree I devised it but not even I can understand how I seem to have missed players like Yakubu, Patrik Berger or Steve Stone and I am sure there will be others, all I will say is there is a category coming up for a 'luxury' player and I think you will see some of these names in that list.

Well I would like to say the race for top spot was close, but it was Mr Prosinecki who won it by a country mile with 34% of your votes, over one in three.

More interesting however were the next three players Merson, Kellard and Mendes, the latter two tied on 18%. Bobby Kellard's inclusion is a really interesting one to me and I must admit not one I had foreseen, it will be interesting to see if there are any others like this.

For interest my vote went to Paul Merson, he played for us longer and was one of the main driving forces to getting in the Premiership. Plus could we do with a player of his class and ability now who only wants £8K per week!!!

Thanks for taking part in building my/our non era dependant dream team.

The final scores were:

Robert Prosinecki 34%
Paul Merson 21%
Bobby Kellard 18%
Pedro Mendes 18%
Other combative player 2%
Hayden Mullins 2%
Michael Brown 2%
Gary O'Neil 1%
Martin Kuhl 1%
Richard Hughes 1%
Sean Davis 0%
Craig Foster 0%
Norman Piper 0%
Tim Sherwood 0%

I trust those few, how voted for Mullins, Brown & Hughes, are new Pompey fans or having a giraffe or just very sad people!!!

I went for the Merse- I think - or was it the Robster- can't remember. I'd have put Kuhl ahead of Brown. Davis was known as "Headless" to me- ah those were the days!

I could see a point for Hughes as his ability to upset the scousers pleased me much!

I went for Kellard because he gave 110% every game and broke the mould of previous 'midfield players' at the club. Presumably a lot of others agreed.

Where was Lassana Diarra on the list as I would have voted for him?

Lassana Diarra is in the same place as Muntari in the 'luxury' player catagory. I have not posted this catagory yet.

Thanks Mick that makes sense. Nice idea though and good polls. [Edited by eastneydave]
