Strangest Season Ever!

Strangest Season Ever!
Well, wasn't it just?! Overall, it's been a pretty miserable season. Certainly in the league.

We started by losing our first 7 games, setting an unwanted new record. We soon settled in to bottom place, and never got off it.

I won't begin to try and summarise the club's off the pitch woes . . you all know as much as I do, and nobody really knows what's behind it. But its been terrible, and sometimes every day there was a new revelation, or somebody in the press slagging the club and baying for blood.

Staring down the barrel of a gun in the form of a winding-up hearing at the High Court was an absolutely frightening experience, which I never ever want to go through again. It was so horrible that I was actually relieved when the club went into administration!

But there has been an incredible flip side. Uncle Avram came in. We all thought he was rather dour character, but we found out, starting with his rant at the ref v Sunderland, what a passionate man he is. We built up an amazing rapport with him, so it is a shame he has gone.

Let's not forget that we beat Liverpool. But of course, there was also the huge shining light of the FA Cup. We got through the 3rd and 4th rounds, and realised that the scummers were still in as well. A buzz went round, and we all watched the draw in raptures, as every other little ball came out and left us & them in. I was lucky enough to get tickets. It was incredibly hostile, but we took them 4-1 again! And in their own backyard too! What else could we ask for from this competition . . .

After a rapturous quarter final against Birmingham - let's not forget the atmosphere at that game, we were in the semis and going back to Wembley again. This season, of all seasons? Of course our draw, Fulham & Spurs had to replay and many of us thought that we wanted Fulham to win. We were wrong!

We got to go back to Wembley and give our disrespect to Redknapp by beating him and several of our former players in the semi-final. Poor old Jamie couldn't play, but by the end we were singing 'Jamie's going to Wembley'.

And of course the cup final was only a couple of days ago as I write this. Whilst sad to have lost I am immensely proud that we were at the cup final again at all. We gave a good account of ourselves on the pitch against the league champions, and gave the world a display of what true support is all about.

Many people expected Pompey to lay down and die. They know better than that now.

So - was it a bad season? Yes, you bet your life it was, it was horrible! But at the same time it was great!

In London today seem quite a few Blackpool fans. Wishing them a great day at Wembley and love to see them go up but at same time little club in prem league- is this more a curse than a blessing?

If little clubs keep their feet firmly on the ground and play for the pleasure of being there, things will be OK. It's when the desperation for glory and survival in the PL take over, and over-spending comes into play, that the canker set's in.

I don't know why my post has appeared for a 2nd time. Tracy, I think this season covered every emotion possible - joy, anger, sadness, frustration, passion, hatred, love.... As Dave said life will be boring after this has all settled. Let's hope next season only contains passion and happiness.

Well summed up Tracey and PFCBlue, an emotional rollercoaster ride it has definately been, like you Tracey I was happy and releived when we went into Admin, which is bizzare in itself, but the other side of the coin was unthinkable. I am glad that we are still here and that hopeullfy we will get the CVA started and then kick off next season on a more even keel. To keep with the Nautical we are now rudderless with Avram having said goodbye, but who could blame him? I would have stayed, but no doubt most Pompey fans would. I am so happy to have two FA cup final shirts in my wardrobe now and won winners shirt, but this seasons FA cup merits for me far outweigh 2008, we (and no disrespect meant here) had a much better and certainly more stable team back then, and had a fairly easy (other than Man Yoo) run to the final, this one was completely different, an epic adventure amidst all of the other crap going on, awesome (and we got too boot the Scum on the way, at their house). It has been truly bizzare, Ive been inconsolible at times and in joyous rapture at others. A quiet season without a relegation fight and no talk backroom politics, and for that matter no Storrie next season and I will be a happy man, I dont even care if we dont come straight back up, or that that would be nice!!!
