Pennymoon's Poetry Corner #1
The weather was drizzly, skies were grey
I just didn't want to go okay?
Not very cold you understand
But it wasn't quite how I had planned
To spend my Saturday...
Sat in the North Stand getting wet
My comfort zone quite under threat
His turn to work on weekend shift
Had left me feeling cast adrift
And I don't go on my own yet!
Anyway, the match was bound to be dull
It wasn't Chelsea, only Hull
but as I listened on The Quay
I wondered how wrong can you be
And at Half Time it was one all.
I could barely sit still in the second half
Groaning and cheering on their behalf
But Hull went on and somehow scored
Our pride was dented, spirits floored
But oh boy did we have the last laugh!
Jamie's free kick at the end of the day
Was simply perfect in every way
Flying over the heads of all
To the topmost corner of their goal
We'd have taken the single point away...
...And been happy, but then, another chance
Belhadj leading Hull a right old dance
Running as though his life was at stake
Knowing he hadn't much time to make
The pass to Kanu who took his chance...
...The crowd erupted, but where was I?
Safe at home in the warm and dry
Feeling ecstatic-but just a bit numb
Wishing I'd sat with a cold wet bum
Underneath a steely sky
I won't make that mistake again
I'll be there come sun or rain
With himself or on my own
With the Blue Army you're not really alone
But you're probably insane!
