Brother McCarthy Stokes Up Rumours

According to reports, rumours linking Benni McCarthy with a January move to Pompey have been stoked up by his brother.

The Blackburn striker is in need to play regular football to have any chance of being in the South Africa squad for next years World Cup. A few days ago rumours were spreading that Benni McCarthy had issued a come-and-get-me plea to Pompey, now them rumours have been stoked up by his brother Jerome McCarthy.

Speaking in South Africa his brother said: 'Benni told me something is going to happen and chances are he will move to Portsmouth.

'He was sure when he told me this.

'It will make more sense for him to leave Blackburn because he's not playing there.'

Other rumours link Benni with a move to the Spain or Holland, should the reported move to Pompey fall through. The other clubs believed to be chasing McCarthy include Spanish sides Espanyol, Deportivo and his former club Ajax.

If he did move to Pompey, McCarthy will team up with his former Blackburn teammate, Aaron Mokoena. The two South Africans played together for two seasons at Blackburn.

In my opinion this is sounding great, I think Benni will be a great signing especially with Dindane being at the African Cup of Nations, we need another good striker.

South Africa have not qualifed yet, but still can as they are currently 2nd in there group. Hopfuly South Africa dont qualify or that cos Benni hasnt played much for Blackburn Carlos Alberto Parreira, wont pick him for the South African squad. Also just found out that if we did sign Benni, we will have South Africa's top scorer and South Africa's most capped player, who is Aaron Mokoena.

doesn't the ACN only over run like 1 or 2 EPL games and an FA cup game though?.. and thats only if they get to the finals

guys cmon??? As host of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Cup, South Africa automatically qualify for the tournament
nodster
South Africa were automatically qualified as hosts of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, they were subject to the same rules as other nations for continuation to the next stage of the qualifiers. Failure to advance from this group eliminated them from the qualifiers for the 2010 African Cup of Nations.

i would rather have benjani here. he hasn't set the world alight at blackburn as he. mc carthy would probably unavailable for a few game as south africa build up to the world cup as well as the acn.

I'm pretty undecided on Benny Boy. His goal tally racked up for the games he's played is pretty respectable. But is he fit, and has he got the right attitude. And if indeed SA are in the ACN, then there's no point. Hart's come out and denied all knowledge anyway, not that that means anything. Having said all that, you still can't get away from the fact that he's a proven EPL goalscorer.

I think it would him the player more than it would suit us. If we need some real fire power for the second half of the season, is BM really the chap for us??? If Blackburn don't want him & look where they are & they didn't want Mokenea & look at him!!!

Benjani is the man for me. Benni has been recalled by SA again. It seems as if he is the plans; that will not be ideal. Benjani will give his 100% as always. Go and get that Pompey-Boy!!
