Loyal, not laughable..

Loyal, not laughable..
So, one more pre-season friendly left and just over one week until the new season starts, and what a manic summer in has been for us blues fans.

Since Al Fahim announced that he wants to take over our club over two months ago we have all been aboard the roller coaster that has started great and slowly it seems gone bad.

Well here we are again, the ride is nearing an end (or so I hope so) and we are back to the start again and things remain as we left them. Dr SAF still wants to take over us and take us on a ride, starting from the bottom and aiming for the top, with vast improvements along the way.

Now I have remained as positive as I can throughout this 'takeover period' but it seems everyone is not in the same frame of mind. It, for me is now getting a little out of control.

On my voyage home today I pass 'The News' poster board with the headline "Pompey Takeover in turmoil" and upon actually reading the paper itself I find it filled with 8 pages of what I can only describe as murky journalism.

I don't really expect a lot of Mr Cross and his Loony Toon team but this to me seems not only a contradiction but also shocking support of the 'local team'. It was just yesterday that the club and Al Fahim stated that the takeover is still on course, so why is 'The News' twisting it so. Surely, in this time of negativity, they should be writing reports that put enthusiasm into the hearts of the supporters not give the 'doom and gloomers' out there more stuff to shout and scream at.

What with all the media attention we seem to be getting at the moment (mainly also negative) I can only guess that all other football team fans must be reading with tears of laughter in their eyes at our expense.

This is neither what we want nor what need.

So it is with this in mind that I make this plea to all Pompey fans and also 'The News'. Be a Loyal Pompey fan and support your team through thick and thin, win or loose, good or bad. Not matter what, because that's what supporting Pompey is all about.

Lets go to the Rangers game, and every other game after that, cheer on the team and Paul Hart, sing Gaydamak`s name for bringing us that FA Cup, and chant for Al Fahim's take over, show him that Fratton Park atmosphere that we all love.

Lets be Loyal, and not laughed at!

Whilst i'm sure all fans will get behind the team come the start of the season, i would ask Dr SAF to sort out his PR Team once he is in the hot seat for real.

Good for you Bleeding Blue. A really enjoyable and upbeat read. They can laugh all they bloody well want and read whatever crap "VIEWspaper" they like, but at the end of the day, this team has the best (and the most knowledgeable IMO) fans in the league. Stick together and have faith come what may.

I can't wait to sing "lets all have a disco" when the season starts. It really cracks me up. What an opener for the season that would be!

This whole business has stretched me very thin but i've been Pompey through and through since the day my dad dragged me to Fratton Park for the first time. I shall support them no matter what but i may not always like whats happening to our club. I do wonder if it's time for Pompey and the News to bury the hatchet how can the news report properly when they, like us are reduced to trawling the net for information?

I find it laughable that for supporters that are lauded by other teams,( "amazing support") ("like a 12th man") so many of us seem to be so pessimistic and suspicious of what's going on. Folks, we're Pompey SUPPORTERS and will be,no matter what. I can remember going to every game when we were in the 4th division,so now I'm enjoying what we've got,but if it ends,it ends,I for one will still be a Pompey Boy. Having said that,I do believe that the media are using us just to sell copy and I do have faith that the takeover will go through safely and we will look back and wonder what we were worried about. I can't wait til Saturday to say welcome back to Pedro and to sing my heart out for the team I've supported for over 40 years. PUP PUP

I must be in the minority but I don't think it's at all unreasonable to publish a story entitled "Pompey Takeover in turmoil" the day after the club issue a statement which raised the issue of selling more players "should the takeover not happen". You don't drop that into a press release and hope nobody notices. It's a strong message, and you have to expect that the press will pick up on it. I'm all for being loyal, but we have to be realistic too. Of course I hope the takeover goes through without any hitches - and The News does too or else they'd have nothing to write about ;) - but the takeover really IS in turmoil. We just have to hope that it comes OUT of turmoil again and goes ahead.

I think I'm going to have to follow along the lines of Phil's take on this. As fans we've just got to let the press headlines slide off our backs a little more. It's a well known fact that doom & gloom. disaster and all manner of human suffering make headlines because it makes good copy. But it ain't just us. I was listening to a piece today on 5 live about Newcastle Utd. And the reporter openly admitted that all the while Newcastle carried on as a soap opera and provided a story he'd be in a job. They love it, it's their bread and butter, but why? It's because of the inbuilt human condition that loves to say Oh that's terrible how sad...and at the same time be entertained by it. But heh! Play up Pompey and ********* to the News...

One doesn't have to work in the newspaper industry to be aware that local rags up and down the country are going out of business due to a chronic decline in advertising and falling sales. The News must be in the very enviable position of having a monopoly down there in Pompey and can afford to enrage what I assume would be a mega bucks advertiser. From a newspaper workers' point of view I have respect for them in that they clearly don't give a stuff about revenue getting in the way of a story (or Storrie) but as a Pompey fan they sure do pee me off at times.

Mr Cross takes after his name. Perhaps his pants are chafing a bit and, in his discomfort, he lashes out wherever he can to alleviate the pain

2016-17 Champions Review: March

Every season has its highs and lows. The draw at home to Morecambe was a body blow for Pompey, but little did we know that the next home game against Crewe was to be our turning point.

Done and dusted - O'Brien joining Coventry

Academy graduate O'Brien, who went on to play for Barnet, Brentford and Dagenham following his release by Pompey, will leave Fratton Park again - he'll link up with Doyle at Coventry.
