Piquionne linked with Pompey

Piquionne linked with Pompey
Latest striker to be linked with Portsmouth in this apparent never ending quest to replace Crouch and Defoe has raised the prospect of Frederic Piquionne to come from Lyon.

From what I can see on the most useful youtube he looks a very promising "big" player - although it's interesting to see two big guys up front as most of the shots show him running off Jan Koller. See following for his youtube CV:

He certainly has height, though the headed goals don't see him "getting up" but he definitely lacks the ungainliness of Crouch for a big man. Apparently valued at 2m in the article I read, if he could score goals like this for Pompey:

I'd lovit, LOVIT if he came and scored for pompey like that...

I find this place useful - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederic_Piquionne but it appears he plays for Lyon but some of the pics are of Monaco and St Etiennes where he played previously. looks to have around about 1 in 3 ratio

Not exactly prolific, which is probably why we are signing him, as opposed to Liverpool or Man City. While Lyon might be one of France's top teams, Picquionne has hardly been a first choice for them. At 31 as well he isn't exactly a spring chicken so Pompey are unlikely to get any financial return on him. Nice to see that my poll on Viduka has seen a huge no vote. He'll spend more time on the bench than on the pitch. We'd be better off buying him a season ticket rather than offering him a contract.

sign him up he would be better than viduka. He is a goalscorer and he can easily pla as target man.

sod him they are letting go of Mensah as well, he would be well worth a punt for a defensive role... Although ACON is up in January, he might give us something until then, big strong, and hard in the tackle

Rabbi depends... it would be unusual for any team to have 2 20 goal a season strikers. It depends which role we see him in... could be he plays a benjy role with an out and out Kalanic, Ghalis or DARTH VIDUKA chipping in with the goals

p.s. on the poll thing - can we see who voted yes... I suggest it's an ideal way of getting the judge Gino thread going.... we can stone them afterwards.

A competition 'not high on list of priorities'

I dare say Cook's views on the Football League Trophy, EFL Trophy, Checkatrade Trophy or whatever the hell it goes by this season a large number share! We'll start at Yeovil tonight.

Pompey MotM at Exeter...EFL Trophy at Yeovil

The Pompey MotM from the 1-0 win at Exeter, which was (in my mind) a pretty dour game (the main thing is we won though), was a tough call to make but I'll go along with the top two.
