Well here we are in Week Two. At the moment we have three people within a point or two of each other jostling for Pole Position but it is early days and the Extra Bonus Points on offer for stumping Me & Eastneydave with one of your own questions are sure to play a part in the final reckoning. So thinking caps on and see if you can answer this week questions and also think of your own question that you can pose to us. As it stands PompeyFrippy and Gino look to have us well and truly stumped and Sneaky has us in a quandary about the colour of John Utaka’s boots! Think YOU know your stuff about Pompey? Come on Join in and you may just win that Mystery Prize.
Chix
Hurray, something that will keep me up for hours! Hope my little brain teaser isn't keeping you up at night Chix!
PompeyFrippy
No Frippy I am fast asleep .... Now where was I .. oh yeah dreaming of Cheryl Cole, Victoria Beckham, Abbey Clancy. Richard Hughes, Lassans Diarra, Kanu, Kanu (again), Diop, Kanu (yet agian), Diop (again) and one other ...Any ideas who it might be ?
Chix
Having spoken to Dave, he informs me that this quiz has a bit of a misleading title.... he says it is all down to you, Chix!! Is the mystery prize getting named as Southampton boss?! :P
Matt_Us
I think I know that one Chix, is it Danielle Bux?
PompeyFrippy
Well Chix, I was at the Eastney Tavern on Sunday night, and my friends came along also. I had previously mentioned the question that I posed, and my friend then proceeded to say the answer, quite loudly, right next to Dave!! Hope he didn't hear.... :-s
PFCGino
If he did Gino he hasn't told me.. I'm still thinking but I don't think I'm gonna get it without a clue (but don't give me one yet) .. the only thing that I can not disprove at the moment is that they are all left footed but I'm convinced they are not .. In fact I'm sure they are not .. But just can't rule it out categorically.
Chix
No worries - well when you want a clue let me know, I'll have to think of a clue that won't give the answer away! Left footed players? I won't comment!
Chix
Gino I've decided that you have got the question wrong there is nothing that links Basinas, Diop, Belhadj, Kanu & Utaka together whatsoever ... All I can think of is that it is so obscure we are never gonna get it .. either that or the answer will start with something like ... 'Other than'... or ....'Except' and exclude a group of players that I have been including... I reckon that it has to be something to do with them being Internationals and there is no link to their Pompey profile.. and 'if' International there is nothing that group have done which on of James or Hermann or Crouchy or Kranjcar haven't done... Actually come to think of it Kanu isn't in our squad at the mo .. so I could declare the question invalid ;) .. I wouldn't do that mate ... but I am utterly convinced you rather than I have missed something... This is gonna be a big victory for you 10 Extra Points !! If I don't get it tonight - I want the answer not a clue .. I can then concentrate on Frippy's question...
Chix
Okay Chix - I can tell you right now that there definately IS something that links Basinas, Diop, Belhadj, Kanu and Utaka - and no other member of Pompey's current squad fit it! And it's not as obscure as you might think, but I admit it's not blindingly obvious! I won't give you a clue unless you ask for it, but I will check this article regularly tonight, ready to claim my ten Bonus Points!
PFCGino
Go on then Gino .. put me out of my misery.. What's the answer ?..
Chix
The answer is....... They are the only members of the current Pompey squad that play international football.....with a different international squad number to the one that they play with at Portsmouth! Basinas (33 for PFC and 6 for Greece), Utaka (17 for PFC and 7 for Nigeria), Kanu (27 for Pompey, 4 for Nigeria), Diop (8 for PFC and 19 for Senegal) and Belhadj (39 for PFC and 3 for Algeria). It's easy when you know it.....
PFCGino
Does Hermann wear 7 for Iceland? probably is the reply.
eastneydave
Sorry Gino but You are wrong! I thought of that and went though the current squad and checked their international squad numbers.. I thought perhaps that might be your answer even though it was pushing it a little with regard to Crouchy being Englands No9 and also as technically England do not wear squad numbers unless they are in a tournament so it depends on whose playing whether he gets No9 or not .. but that aside ... You have missed something .. I did check and check again with you... but you were adamant ;) Now you have to work out why you are wrong !! Chix wins ! I'm affraid.. Right... now on to Frippy's question Thinking cap on !
Chix
It's not Herman, or Kranjcar, or James, or even Richard Hughes .. I'm not even talking David Nugent ... But there is another current Pompey squad member that has a different squad number for Pompey than he does for his country... and yes it is the 'Full' international squad .. in fact according to Fifa.com he was in the squad for the last international his country played
Chix
Dave - Herman does indeed wear number 7 for Iceland. If I work out the player Chix can I have some points? Chix I did look at Crouchy because he has worn all sorts of numbers, but he had No 9 for the last qualifier so I went for that!! I'm gutted, absolutely gutted..... and if you are talking about a certain Aaron Mokoena Chixy then that is so cheating because he hasn't got a Pompey squad number yet and the points should be mine!
PFCGino
If I was thinking about Aaron Mokena Gino then that would be unfair (although technically right) but I'm not .. And no you can't have any points for working out why I'm right and you're wrong .. Must admit I'm loving this !!
Chix
Kranjcar? According to Wiki he's squad number 8 - which is utter garbage, he's ALWAYS 19!! You would be loving it, although it's a MASSIVE technicality - if I'd asked the question months ago I probably would have been right!!
PFCGino
I am working on a new question..... don't you worry.
PFCGino
I am working on a new question..... don't you worry.
PFCGino
Gino I wasn't thinking of Niko !!
Chix
Come on then Chix, tell me!
PFCGino
Who played in goal for Pompey at the end of last season ??
What squad number was he allocated?
Who was the reserve goalie for Canada in their last World Cup Qualifier?
What squad number was he allocated?
See Gino ... it is none other than....
Asmir Begoviv
Chix
You won't believe this - but I was genuinely looking for Begovic's international status because I knew that he might trip me up - however I couldn't find a single bean despite looking for AGES so just assumed he hasn't played for Canada. Come on, that's harsh considering he didn't play!! (I could say that Asmir BegoviV doesn't play for PFC but I'm not as harsh a task-master as you Chix)
PFCGino
Also, provide me with the link.... I still don't believe you!
PFCGino
Read em and weep Gino

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/preliminaries/nccamerica/matches/round=250468/match=300053874/index.html

http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/index.php?cms_ref=squad_players

I think that clears it up !
Chix
Aaah - you see is Begovic in the CURRENT Canada squad? Because I believe the match you refer to was in November 2008 - and I did stipulate CURRENT in the question....
PFCGino
Gino You are wriggling but I won't cave in ;) .. The link I sent you shows the game that Fifa.com records as being Canadas last game .. so by definition there is nothing more 'current'. To add more weight ...if I (as you are trying to do) take current literally I could then claim that neither Diop or Utake 'currently' have international squad numbers because they didn't feature in their respective countries last games.. See you just can't get me whichever way you turn ;)..
Chix
Hate to tell you this Chix but FIFA.com is wrong - their last game was last month vs. Costa Rica, and Begovic was nowhere near the first team squad, let alone the game itself. Will have you the link when I get home from work. I have actually e-mailed the Canadian FA to ask if Begovic is in the CURRENT Canada squad, and if so what number, so if that comes back as "No, he is not" then I win, Chix!
PFCGino
Canada's most recent game: a 2-2 draw vs Costa Rica: http://www.canadasoccer.com/tourney/FIFA_WC/game_profile.asp?gameId=1749 Can you se Begovic's name anywhere in that?! No - ten points please :-)
PFCGino
This is what we like to see a good well mannered discussion on VP NOT an argument!! Begovic has now decided we wants to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the future after being invited by their manager Mirolsav Begovic. That is not meant to cloud this discussion.
eastneydave
Haha thanks Dave - just trying to fight for my ten points that I am clearly entitled to!
PFCGino
Gino
Your original question was...
What unique fact do John Utaka, Papa Bouba Diop, Angelos Basinas, Nadir Belhadj and N*****wo Kanu all share?
You clarified by saying.
Chix - I'll define unique as they are unique at the current time, not taking into account any past players. But yes, in the current squad it is just those five players that share that fact.
To be clearer - they are unique only within the current Pompey squad - past players have definately fallen within these limits before, however at the CURRENT TIME, these five players are the only members of the CURRENT squad to share this 'fact'.

When I gave in and asked for the answer.. You said …
The answer is....... They are the only members of the current Pompey squad that play international football.....with a different international squad number to the one that they play with at Portsmouth! But I say…
Despite asking you to clarify, The question was wrong because you forgot Begovic
But now you say
Begovic didn't play his in his country’s last game, therefore I am wrong to say the question is wrong
But I say ..
Well then neither did Diop or Utaka!, so the question is still wrong
Gino
I asked for clarity of the question and you provided it. Either way you look at it ‘played last international’ or ‘didn’t play last international’ The question was wrong and (as explained) when you gave me the answer I had already ruled that option out because of Begovic. In reality (given what transpired to be the ambiguity of the question) there was no possible way I could have answered it correctly.
On the basis that the Judges decision is final and I am the Judge I will not be awarding any Bonus Points but you are of course welcome to submit another question.
Chix
Now go to your room !
Chix
Goddamnit. You got off on a technicality Chix! My next question is this: What links Utaka, Mvuemba, Kranjcar, Basinas, Belhadj! Although you probably will somehow get out of that one I bet!
PFCGino
I reckon I'm still right because despite Kanu/Diop not playing, they are still squad players - but I guess as you rule the roost I've lost :-(. Can I at least have an 'A' for effort?
PFCGino
Of Course Gino A definate 'A' for effort... although it would have to be an A- of course ;) .. I'll come to your next question when I've had a crack at Frippy's
Chix
Fair enough - Frippy's has got me aswell, I'm really trying to figure it out!
PFCGino
And now to respond to Sneakay’s Questionabout the colour of John Utaka’s boots for the Wigan match
Sneakay… well first off, when looking at the ‘correct person’ on your photo I have to agree with you
But I viewed the video footage of the match from the official site and saw something different.
Have a look at it and freeze frame the video as Utaka jumps when in the wall of Wigan’s second (I think) free-kick (about five mins into the video) then pan down to his boots, enlarge the image just on his feet and you’ll see they are no way the same colour as they are in the photo you have and although you can see the flashing on them (which demonstrates they are the same boots) it just doesn’t look green.
I’m happy to concede the ten points on this one as although we could argue the toss on whose picture is a more accurate representation of his boots – I’ve used Jermaine Pennants boots as a reference point and it’s clear from your photo that they match what would be my description from the video.
So Sneaky wins and I’ll blame the PFC cameraman for poor lighting !
Do have a look at the video though, if for nothing else to see what I mean.
Gino is gonna kill me !
Chix
Thank you very much Chix. :) Woo Hoo and 10 points for me! Now to come up with yet another impossible Pompey question!
sneakay
Oh and by the way Chix, regarding my first question. What row was I sitting at for at Wembley for the FA Cup Final, which you responded with....

Hi ya Sneaks .. now I would normally say that this question isn't 'really' about Pompey is it ... let's be honest ... but seeing as I think know the answer I'll let it stand.. Noow if memory serves me correctly .. for the final you were in 'Up in the gods' as you have somewhere to hang your flag.. now if I'm not mistaken you were in block 503... row..... umm was it 17?.. I can just imagine the look on you face right now ..But please don't ask me what you were wearing, eating or who you were sitting next to... Chix

The answer is actually row 13. Again I will send you photographic proof, but seeing as you let it stand that will be another 10 points to me! :)

sneakay
Sneaks... I only let it stand because I knew the answer was in the forum ... Otherwise there's no way I would have even considered it. Anyway I thought I copied and pasted it into this front page.. but obviously didn't and mada a typo.. I really couldn't justify giving 10 points for that . It just wouldn't be fair to the other participants.. In the words of the lovely Cheryl Cole...It's a definate No from me.. I'm affraid !
Chix

sneakay
Ok Chix, I will let you off as you are the judge even though it is sort of Pompey related in a way.

My next question that I put to you then Chix (and Dave of course)is....Which player scored on his Debut for Leeds aged just 17 before moving to Pompey in the 80s for £200,000k?

A toughie you will probably agree, but I think I have given you enough information to have a good crack at it. Perhaps too much information.

sneakay
sneakay - Terry Connor!!
eastneydave
Get in there Eastneydave ... But I will say that that is the type of question we were expecting .. rather than long drawn out ones that take time to research... Sneaks (and others) If you want an example then that it is .. Although it would have been harder (for us perhaps) to answer if worded "What former Pompey player scored on his Leeds debut at the age of 17" That way you have only even us one piece of info... Does that help anybody ??
Chix
Great shout Dave. Glad you liked the question Chix. Time to step it up antoher level then!
sneakay
Who was the former Pompey player who took 313 first-class wickets?
sneakay
Chix, we have to make you work! Surely that's the whole point of this? Otherwise, we want questions that aren't so long and drawn out in our quiz too (like Q38, which I have emailed Goodmans as a last resort after hours of searching online!!) Dave is brilliant though.....the silent assassin....says nothing then pops up with a quality answer!
PFCGino
Gino - Yeah sure .. but I've only (I think) asked 4 questions so far that can not be answered by a little knowledge and a little research ... We've had 4 out of 8 ... only joking mate - It'll be interesting to see it you get a response from Goodmans that differs from mine... Gosh you fellas take this so seriously..
Chix
That differs from my technique of finding an answer, by guessing.
PompeyFrippy
Hmmm....well, I still think some of the questions are harsh - and Chix I emailed you today with the response from the Canadian Soccer Association! Needless to say, I was right.... but I'm over that now. My new question is much, much better and I'm 100% confident there's no way of you wriggling out of it! But first, Frippy's...... I'm gagging to know the answer!!
PFCGino
sneakay as Toast Season 2 # 40 told you the 'goalkeeper who won a championship medal in County Cricket.'

Yes it is Jim Standen - 313 wickets at 25.34.
eastneydave
Right Frippy You said Complete this list;- Hughes, Diarra, Kanu, Kanu, Diop, Kanu, Diop, ...? There is only one name missing. .. Well I can honestly say I reckon I'd thought of everything and none of it matches so I haven't got the foggiest .. So on the basis that if I don't know you get the Ten extra points I am at least gonna guess at it !.. I have no idea who to pick (or why) but I am being strangely drawn to Kranjcar and Johnson so on the basis that I spent well over a hour this afternoon looking at the length of injurues they might have had .. I'm gonna go for Kranjcar as he didn't finish the season... If I any correct I apologise because I really don't have a clue !... Come on then spill the beans
Chix
Not quite Chix, the correct answer is Lassana Diarra. Why? http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/index.php?cms_ref=news&qs_article_id=2611
PompeyFrippy
Ok, so that link didn't quite work as I imagined. It was the order of goalscorers in Portsmouths 8-6 win against the Friends of Kanu in 2008.
PompeyFrippy
What a question Frippy!! Something so simple and you outfoxed Chix and Dave. You have a tip of the hat from me good sir!!
PFCGino
Here is el linkio. http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/index.php?cms_ref=news&qs_article_id=1223
PompeyFrippy
Here is el linkio. http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/index.php?cms_ref=news&qs_article_id=1223
PompeyFrippy
Well done Frippy I would have never have got that. I ruled out goalscorers really early because of Hughes and Diop and I didn't even consider the Friends of Kanu match.. and even when I checked my player files I wouldn't have noticed it as I haven't updated them since the end of the season !!..

Right on to Gino's question Hopefully the last one in list form ;)
Chix
Frippy's was a great question. Looking at that link - in picture 10 it looks like the club have blacked out the sky completely, but they've made a real hash of it, and not bothered to do it at the sides! Wonder why that is? Anyway - bring it on Chix!
PFCGino
Never noticed that Gino, looks strange. The only possible reason I can imagine is that it was a dull day and they didn't want to show it like that, so they pointlessly blacked out a specific portion.
PompeyFrippy
haha na all thats happened is the software they've used to save the photo hasn't reconised the sky as a colour cause it was so grey/white and basically emitted it, so when its put on to the site which has a default background of black the black shows where the sky should be ;P
pompeym@
Cheers for clearing that up M@! Come on Chix, I'm dying to ask another question, just concede defeat already!!
PFCGino
must admit I'm stuggling Gino but the longer I keep you waiting the longer I have before I start looking at all the same playe details again.. I might ask for a clue after the weekend if I am no nearer an answer... Although it might pay you to give me a free clue then I might answer and allow you to ask another ??
Chix
Well I MAY give you a clue in this week's Chimes..... you must hunt for it though!
PFCGino
haha sneaky i like it and np gino i use photoshop far too much not too know that sort of stuff lol
