Knowing me knowing you - cornypomp

We get to know a little more about cornypomp.

1 - Vital Pompey username?
cornypomp.

2 - Where do you come from/where do you currently live?
I was born and brought up in a town called Camberley/Surrey which is about 30 miles outside London. I now live in Falmouth, Cornwall aboard my sailing boat.

3 - How long have you been a Vital Pompey member?
That's made me scratch my head... I think I joined up in late 2007. (Written in June 2009)

4 - What do you think of Vital Pompey? Be brutally honest!
Vital Pompey is VITAL... I love it. Although not exactly the end of the earth, Cornwall can be a bit isolating at times, especially in a footballing sense. It's a rugby county. Vital Pompey enables me to participate at a fans level and to keep in touch with all things PFC. Love the characters, comments, humour and insight. Good crack...

5 - How did you find out about Vital Pompey?
Picked up on Vital Pompey through reading articles on Newsnow Portsmouth. Got hooked and decided to join up.

6 - When did you first watch Pompey live - not on box unless this is the only way you have been able to see them? Not necessarily at Fortress Fratton though.
Well that was an awful long time ago, 1957 to be precise. My dad who was a lifelong Pompey fan took me to see Pompey v Spurs at Fratton Park for a birthday treat. It couldn't have been a better induction, we thrashed them 5-1. I'll never forget the excitement travelling down on the train, wrapped up in my new knitted hat and scarf and clutching my rattle. I was only six and had never seen so many people in my life, it was incredible and a bit scary. I had to get up in front of the class in primary school and tell them about it, (for a things we have done project) brilliant.

7 - How often do you get to watch Pompey?
Not as often as I'd like. Last season I got up to eight matches...just. That awful word "money" plays a big part in how often I can make it to Fratton Park. Shame, but a fact of life.

8 - Who is your favourite Pompey Player - current and/or former?
Hmmmnn...I think I'm going to have to go for Pedro Mendes. Pedro encapsulates all I go for in a footballer. Great guy, intelligence on the pitch and off it, brilliant passer of the ball and of coarse a fantastic shot on him. Who will ever forget his goals against Man City??? No Pompey fan that's for sure.

9 - What is you favourite Pompey moment?
Well it's got to be Pompey winning the FA Cup. Although I had to content myself with watching the match on TV, I was still screaming at the screen and felt so elated when Sol lifted the cup. It was also quite a poignant moment for me because my dad had recently died and never got to see the game.

10 - What are your realistic hopes for Pompey in the future?
That the current takeover by Dr SAF goes through and that we can move onwards and upwards albeit at a realistic pace. It would be nice to see Fratton Park revamped at first before a new stadium. The academy and training ground of course should both be invested in and built up. It's not only our future but makes good business sense. As for the playing staff, I'd like to be able to secure our top players but also add and strengthen over time so that we can maintain our EPL status. It doesn't need mega-bucks, don't want primadonas. If we can secure a good manager who knows the game, anything's possible. And maybe another flutter in Europe would go down well...when we're ready.

Nice one CornyPomp. Aren't memories of your first game just brilliant? You might like to write a longer article just about that. Talk to EastneyDave for more details. Let's hope we can meet up next season
