Pompey talk with PFCMatt

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - and we had the 'talking Pompey with' series last summer, this now returns under a new name and some fresh questions as 'Pompey talk with'...

PFCMatt was asked 6 questions about the 2008/09 season and what the hopes are for the 2009/10, one and indeed our future, is.

This is what they said...

  • So, sum up the 2008/09 season in 3 words?
A huge disappointment. I'm still not completely over it if I'm honest.

  • Suddenly things seem 'a lot brighter' for Pompey with Dr SAF taking over - what are your hopes/aspirations under the new ownership? Assuming everything goes through!
If everything goes through then happy days are here again! Nah, I'm a Pompey fan which means I'm always racked with little doubts and have learnt to embrace disappointment. I'm fairly sick of saying this but I would like to see some sign of building work at the site of the proposed new training ground. The out-of-contract players futures sorted out. Some quality additions made to the squad, that'll do for a start.

  • Which players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
If I'm honest I haven't even thought that far ahead, but if the takeover goes ahead I can see most of the new players coming in from abroad. Injuries and wages aside, Michael Owen could be worth a punt.

  • If you had to select 1 player to 'sell' or 'release' this summer who would it be and why?
Utaka without a shadow of a doubt, obvious I know. Paid £7-8m for someone who's had 2 good games for us in 2 years, that says it all really.

  • What are you hoping for from Pompey in the 2009/10 season?
I'd settle for a season of no drama please, it would be nice to be safe by Xmas, anything else would be a bonus really.

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make during that season?
I'll be at all the home games and I would like to go to more away games next season, I'd like to go somewhere like Anfield a ground I've never been to before.

Thanks to PFCMatt for answering these.

Good one Matt. I like your answer to hopes for the 2009/10 season. I'll agree to disagree on Utaka though. I find it interesting that you think Michael Owen could be worth a punt. I don't know quite what to think about Owen. Apart from his injuries, he just aint the player he was. Having said that, many a player has had a new lease of life when they've come to Pompey, so maybe it could work for him?

If you have never been to Anfield Matt then I would recommend it. I agree Michael Owen would be worth a shot too.

Owen does work well with Crouch, but would we be to latewith the due dillegence still ongoing.

Owen and Crouch would be good. I live 45 mins from Anfield and tbh everytime ive seen us there the atmosphere has been crap apart from the away fans :)
