Pompey talk with paultsmouth

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - and we had the 'talking Pompey with' series last summer, this now returns under a new name and some fresh questions as 'Pompey talk with'...

paultsmouth was asked 6 questions about the 2008/09 season and what the hopes are for the 2009/10, one and indeed our future, is.

This is what they said...

  • So, sum up the 2008/09 season in 3 words?
    Frustrating, Disappointing, Underwhelming.

  • Suddenly things seem 'a lot brighter' for Pompey with Dr SAF taking over - what are your hopes/aspirations under the new ownership? Assuming everything goes through!
At the time of writing, the gutter press is doing it's worst, really giving Pompey a going over. They are finding dirt where it should be Daz white, but if he takes over, first up will be the joint training ground and Fratton revamp, both almost immediately you would hope, and then it would be a decent manager with a bit of charisma, then stability around the team itself, Jonno is our jewel in the crown, but he could well be gone by the time due diligence is complete, if so he would need to be replaced, and then the team needs strengthening throughout to improve on what was a disappointing season in the end.

  • Which players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
Until we know what budget we have, I'm loathe to speculate, hopefully it won't be bargain basement stuff, but I would love to see us sign a striker with something to prove, and some good younger talent.

  • If you had to select 1 player to 'sell' or 'release' this summer who would it be and why?
Any of the freeloaders on big wages, ie: Traore (Djimi), Lauren, both who should depart anyway, Utaka is our biggest enigma, but we may just stick with him for another chance.

  • What are you hoping for from Pompey in the 2009/10 season?
If the takeover happens, a solid start and maybe a European push and good cup run, if it all falls through, survival!

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make during that season?
All home and a couple away is my norm, getting more expensive everyday though.

Thanks to paultsmouth for answering these.

    PLAY UP POMPEY!

Good one paultsmouth, I'd have to agree with all your thoughts and answers there. I'm especially keen on "a decent manager with a bit of charisma"...That's just so important for us I think. In reality though I still can't even begin to hazard a guess to who that's going to be...PUP.

nice one paul, im like you i like the thought of speculating on who we 'might' sign but until we are taken over, we know who the manager will be and what they will have to play with we know nothing... well little!
here is to hoping we get some questions answering soon.

Dr Goatboys take over seems to be dragging on, due diligence? They will know every blade of grass at Fratton by its first name by the time this finishes.

Hi Paul, yeah you have just about summed it all up. So much depends on the new owner, it sends a positive message to all Pompey fans, and we don't want to turn over the alternative leaf, which only spells a mighty FALL.
