Pompey talk with pompeycook

Pompey talk with pompeycook
Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - and we had the 'talking Pompey with' series last summer, this now returns under a new name and some fresh questions as 'Pompey talk with'...

pompeycook was asked 6 questions about the 2008/09 season and what the hopes are for the 2009/10, one and indeed our future, is.

This is what they said...

  • So, sum up the 2008/09 season in 3 words?
The good the bad and the damn right ugly.

  • Suddenly things seem 'a lot brighter' for Pompey with Dr SAF taking over - what are your hopes/aspirations under the new ownership? Assuming everything goes through!
Well I hope we can get a 40,000 seater stadium built on Horsea Island to host the 2018 world cup, presuming we get it. The training ground gets underway and also spend time developing players in the academy. I hope we buy some good players, and if so make a statement like Manchester City and buy a big player.

  • Which players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
    David Bentley
    Per Mertesacker
    Jesus Navas
    Manuel Fernandes

  • If you had to select 1 player to 'sell' or 'release' this summer who would it be and why?
It would have to be David nugent. Yes he's scored a few this season but we could get at least get 4 million from his sale witch I think could be re-invested somewhere else.

  • What are you hoping for from Pompey in the 2009/10 season?
I'm hoping for a mid table finish possibly in the Europa League spots because I think we are a big enough team to be there and should be finishing (with no disrespect because they've done well) higher than Fulham and Wigan or even Bolton.

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make during that season?
Well I am busy this year, at least half of them possibly less but I'll watch them on telly or listing on 107.4 The Quay.

Thanks to pompeycook for answering these.

thanks for this pompeycook, hopefully we will hear more from you in he future...
i love the 'The good the bad and the damn right ugly' part.
i would agree, like others have said, that this is a make-or-break season for nugent but would most certainly keep him and give him a proper run as a proper forward - he might not be good enough, but it would be good to find out for sure first i reckon? besides i like his effort and commitment, for me that is worth alot, sometimes more than talent - which i still think he does have mind...

I would love us to sign some high profile players but not for lots of money like city that just ruins football but signing David Bentley ,Per Mertesacker , Jesus Navas , Manuel Fernandes , Cambiasso are realistic but i wouldnt like to see cambiasso rather have fernandes or viera. Cant see jesus navas leaving sevilla. Good players though (Y)

Good shout Pompeycook. Don't particularly want one big name player - don't think it works well in the dressing room. 4 or 5 above average players dotted around the pitch, mingling with what we already have would see us through next year, I think. Then hopefully, we will get one or two big guns in,

Release David Nugent? Four million? Are you having a laugh?

Transfer market has gone mad. I wouldn't look for any big name players this summer.
