Pompey talk with southportpompey

Pompey talk with southportpompey
Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - and we had the 'talking Pompey with' series last summer, this now returns under a new name and some fresh questions as 'Pompey talk with'...

southportpompey was asked 6 questions about the 2008/09 season and what the hopes are for the 2009/10, one and indeed our future, is.

This is what they said...

  • So, sum up the 2008/09 season in 3 words?
Disappointing, promising and annoying (all those late goals conceded!!)

  • Suddenly things seem 'a lot brighter' for Pompey with Dr SAF taking over - what are your hopes/aspirations under the new ownership? Assuming everything goes through!
If everything goes through then it will sure be interesting. The most important thing is that he is a businessman at the end of the day and should see that the best way to run our club will be with better facilities, ground, training ground etc... If the guy is as generally committed as he have heard then it can only be a good thing right?

  • Which players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
Isn't Huntelaar supposed to be unsettled at Real? And they owe us one for Lassie :)

Seriously i think we should try and hit the teams that were relegated, Tuncay, O'Neil, Bates, Gutierrez, Nolan, Martins, Robinson etc could all do a job for us, but it all hinges on the takeover, I hope if SAF does take over we don't hear the "were gonna sign.... for £XXX" as he was said to have done at Citeh... keep it steady build on the current squad, try not to let too many of our better players leave and aim for finishing say between 8th and 12th, also get a decent manager in! For me, Bilic or Mancini and get Hart back with the youth squad doing what he does best.

  • If you had to select 1 player to 'sell' or 'release' this summer who would it be and why?
    Traore (D) end of!

  • What are you hoping for from Pompey in the 2009/10 season?
Stability, no relegation battle, maybe another cup run.

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make during that season?
Living in Southport I'm just on 300 miles away from FP but I made 10 away games last season so i will try and do the same next season, my little 5 year old lad has started coming with me as well :)

    PUP!!

Thanks to southportpompey for answering these.

    PLAY UP POMPEY!

another in the 'stability camp', which i what i like - lets just hope, baring johnson, we can actually still see this happen, which i think and hope we will. of course some - rightly so - will be released tho.

With all the changes that the club has had in recent years I can see why you want stability. But you need to stabilise with the right management team and squad or it is actually a curse in disguise. I would like the idea of going for Bilic as a manager. He would work his rocks off and totally transform the training regime. The squad is carrying deadweights like Traore and Mvuemba who you need to dump, but otherwise you need to stabilise or players will keep leaving, like Davis-- and possibly Crouch too.

Interesting and exciting times ahead for us Southportpompey! I too would like stable, but not too stable. I suspect Dr Saf has already learnt from ManC that the way forward is not to go out and chuck as much money around as you can. So thats good then.

Evans - Right back or right midfield?

Drew Talbot and Adam Buxton are fit but Gareth Evans continues to fill in at right back. Should this change? If so where would it leave the battle between Evans and Carl Baker?
