Pompey talk with Owenspompey

Pompey talk with Owenspompey
Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - and we had the 'talking Pompey with' series last summer, this now returns under a new name and some fresh questions as 'Pompey talk with'...

Owenspompey was asked 6 questions about the 2008/09 season and what the hopes are for the 2009/10, one and indeed our future, is.

This is what they said...

  • So, sum up the 2008/09 season in 3 words?
    1. Mundane
    2. Embarrassing
    3. Disappointing

  • Suddenly things seem 'a lot brighter' for Pompey with Dr SAF taking over - what are your hopes/aspirations under the new ownership? Assuming everything goes through!
    1. Bilic/Mancini/Ranieri one of these as manager.
    2. Ground Improvements for real!!
    3. Hart to the Academy.
    4. Stability.
    5. Honesty from the management.
    6. Johnson/Crouch/Kranjcar to stay.
    7. Spurs relegated.
    8. Jamie's Dad is sacked.
    9. Top half finish.
    10. Training ground completed.

  • Which players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
    1. Gary O'Neill.
    2. Benjani.
    3. Daniel Sturridge.
    4. Javier Saviola.
    5. Roger Johnson.
    6. Armand Traore.
    7. Gelson Fernandez.
    8. Manuel Fernandes.
    9. Darren Gibson.
    10. Kyle Naughton.

  • If you had to select 1 player to 'sell' or 'release' this summer who would it be and why?
Sol Campbell, great job, but we need to free up his wages and develop Kaboul and sign Roger Johnson.

  • What are you hoping for from Pompey in the 2009/10 season?
I hope that we re-establish ourselves as a force in the division, and another good cup run would be great.

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make during that season?
I hope to get to most games, but the travelling does get to me at times

Thanks to Owenspompey for answering these.

cheers Owens, good answers straight to the point!
keeping johnson is now looking increasingly unlikely, as is keeping crouchy? i like the look of the names on your list of players in - we sure as hell will need some, and i wouldnt be put out with any of those tbh...
    14/06/2009 10:26:00
Cheers Rug, always a pleasure to contribute something. I agree that it looks like Glen will go, however if we received 18-20 million i htink that would be great business for us. However all the stories from Crouch are beginning to wind me up, he seems to forget he was a bit part player at Liverpool, and has helped himself no end by coming back, just keep quiet, let the takeover happen and then we can all move on.
    14/06/2009 10:56:00
Yep, it must be very difficult for the players, but they will not help things by commenting in the press, who have enough of their own idea to print without being given any! Well thought out answers, Owenspomoey.
    14/06/2009 12:48:00
shame that with so much going on today with the thoughts on johnson and of course crouchy that this has been overlooked somewhat... i will leave it 'sticky' for half of monday too to give it alittle more of an airing.
    14/06/2009 21:49:00
    imagine his shopping list
    15/06/2009 00:46:00
Nice one Owens, good list. I would like to think that if we had the money we could improve maybe on Gary O'Neil though. However if commitment and attitude go then can't fault the guy. I reckon Crouch will rejoin Jamie's Dad though, as he is keen to get him and all this talk from Crouch doesn't seem as if he's in for the long run. If that happens then at least that will quash the rumour he coming back to manage us.
    15/06/2009 07:53:00
do not think there is much chance of that rumour coming true now blarmy - it 'might' have crossed his mind for a split second but if johnson and crouchy both move on, and chances are they both will despite the fact we are being taken over, then im not sure he would fancy the idea of coming back to basically start from scratch would he...
    15/06/2009 08:03:00
Must agree with most of your replies Chris (owens) bad season and hopefully much to look forward to.
    15/06/2009 09:11:00
Just goes to show what a complet lod of s**t the papers come up with as they were quoting that at the Airport on Saturday Crouch made his quotes, well he wasn't even in the country as he apparently flew out on Thursday on holiday.
    15/06/2009 11:39:00
So you actually can't assume that Crouch said any of it. I can understand if he is frustrated by this season, he started off playing for ol' twitchy alongside the dwarf, and finished up-front on his own which meant he didn't get to score much. But he must see that what needs to happen to fix that is happening, and you'd think he'd be excited to wait and see how it pans out.

MotM in poor Notts County show...Cambridge next

There wasn't too much to cheer from the Notts County defeat was there, well certainly not the 2nd half at Fratton Park but one plus was seen as Amine Linganzi for Pompey.

    Double figure aim for Baker

Goals are in the game of Baker; we've seen this already as the midfielder has scored four for Pompey since his arrival from MK Dons in the summer. His aim is at least 10-goals.
