Knowing me knowing you 2! - The Rabbi

Knowing me knowing you 2! - The Rabbi
1 - Vital Pompey username?
The Rabbi.

2 - Where do you come from/where do you currently live?
Still in London and probably always will be. The wife wants a move to the country to raise pigs but carrot crunching doesn't really appeal to me.

3 - How long have you been a Vital Pompey member?
So long it hurts. (Re-written April 2009)

4 - What do you think of Vital Pompey? Be brutally honest!
A very well run fan website.

5 - How did you find out about Vital Pompey?
It sort of found me.

6 - When did you first watch Pompey live - not on box unless this is the only way you have been able to see them? Not necessarily at Fortress Fratton though.
Walsall at home in 1977. Me, my dad, my uncle who lived in Tel Aviv, and my mum's cousin who was chairman of a Tottenham supporters club in London. Norman Piper equalised for Pompey in the last five minutes for a 1-1 draw. I never thought it would get better but it did.

7 - How often do you get to watch Pompey?
Used to be a season ticket holder and a regular at away matches. This season managed to go to Chelsea away, and Guimaraes and Wolfsburg but haven`t done a home game for three years due to working on Saturday's.

8 - Who is your favourite Pompey Player - current and/or former?
Always a big fan of Richard Hughes, who isn't the best player but is committed and never moans about not playing much. Whittingham and Walsh (Bristol Rovers at home in particular 1992) were a class act as was Prosinecki. Alan Knight had his moments. Loved Alan Biley (Oxford at home in 1984). Mark Hateley (Hat trick v Brighton in 1985) was a player far too good for us. Billy Rafferty, Neil Webb, David Kemp, Noel Blake, Mick Tait, the list is endless. Steve Claridge was something special as well.

9 - What is you favourite Pompey moment?
I can't stop at one having seen so many in the last thirty years. here goes with a list of all of those I've witnessed at Pompey games. Alan Biley scoring at Plymouth in 1983 to win us the third division championship, Alan Biley and santa Claus in the last minute v Oxford in 1984, five goals in thirteen minutes against Brighton in 1985, Mick Channon header from outside the box at Wimbledon at Plough lane on new years day 1987, Mick Tait winner at Ipswich in 1987, Clive Whitehead equaliser v Scum at home in 1987, Terry Connor at Scum 1988, John Beresford goal from 40 yards at Old Trafford 1991, a 4-2 win at derby just after Xmas 1992, Darren Anderton scoring in the semi final at Highbury and the celebs, warren Aspinall last minute winner at Southend in 1992, mark chamberlain running the length of the pitch to score at plymouth in 1992, Whittingham hat trick at Bristol city 1993, staying up at Bradford in 1998, going up at Bradford in 2003, crouch scoring at Guimaraes and the celebs last year, and Sol lifting the cup. Kanu scoring was a huge anti climax due to his non celeb! I've just remembered the 'Steve Claridge' chant that went up around the ground v Rotherham in 2003 as being pretty special.

10 - What are your realistic hopes for Pompey in the future?
That we stay in the top two divisions and don't suffer a financial meltdown like Rupert Lowe's red and white army.

Rabbi, some great memories there. Was there & remembered a lot of what you stated. Bristol Rovers with the Walsh & Whittingham with half a dozen one two's. Wonderful goal.
