Utaka......deserves a 2nd (well 4th or 5th) chance
Paul Hart in Wednesday's News seems to think so.

I agree with Paul Hart that Utaka's best position is centre forward,...well I think we can all agree on that.

We all know he has pace.....the skill to take on players, it's just the end product that is lacking. Almost a modern LuaLua

He seemed to enjoy himself Monday I don't know if that's because:

a) No pressure game
b) Had something to prove after the penalty miss at Ewood
c) Putting himself in the shop window

I think he still has something to offer on a regular basis. (This based on a very limited transfer fund.)

Him and Crouch up front, with Niko playing a free role behind them. The flicks from Crouch, and the pace of John could prove to be quite damaging.

It's just a shame we haven't got 3 or 4 'meaningless' games left for John to show us what he can do.

Hopefully Sunday will give us an indication.

It's a difficult one...been here for pretty much 2 years and done very little, an now everyone is getting excited based on one game. Very nice guy, does lots of community work, but I'm afraid I think it's time he moved on...

Agreed, cash in on him. He couldn't give a whole season of good games. Needs a slower pace game with a warmer climate. The hussle & mud of the prem ain't for him. Hopefully his recent display will allow someone else to pay good money & take him from us.

I have always liked Utaka, and know that he will offer us more when stuck up front. Nugent and Utaka up top next season will see us score loads!

We've all seen what Utaka can do, his early performances on the right wing proved he could do a job there but maybe in the centre is best for him. I have a feeling that maybe he'd fallen out with Jamies Dad and this affected his mind set. certainly i think there was more to it than we the fans were privvy to. He has the tools, pace and undoubted skill, for my money is certainly worth another chance. Looking at the poll i'd say you might have given us some choices stfc ballboy. 3 of those options are definite no's meaning you don't even have to think about the final option.

I've been very disappointed in Utaka, we knew he had ability, I remember that fantastic solo goal against Bolton, but recently he seems to have failed to deliver, and its frustrating when a talented player appears to not give his all. But then he has been played out of position, and its possible Hart can get the best out of him. I don't mind which way it goes, either we cash in on him or he stays and gets another chance to prove himself, and maybe turns out good after all. I can wait and see on that one. Mind you a few months ago I'd have wanted rid ASAP!

agree to some extent with Tracy, would have pack his cases for him a few weeks ago and honestly I still think I would... Sunderland were poor defensively and his all round performance was mediocre. four or five great touches in an otherwise average performance. Still feel his first touch is poor, which you don't get away with in the Premiership... The only problem we've got is he could stay and POSSIBLY turn out good or we cash in (maybe 5mil to a french club) buttttt who realistically is gonna come in to our club in its present state who is any better? Therefore despite my non-too-favourable opinion I think we might just have to keep him for now...

When he arrived he was explosive and an unknown with skills that we we all were anxious to see. I sense that there is a massive confidence issue with him having dropped the 'bit' (horse talk) by not feeling wanted or involved due to no pat on the shoulder and also playing out of position. Look how Nugent responded to both. However, seeing his enthusiasm and reaction to his display, I feel with belief and support from the manager he could only get better and not slip back to being a lost sheep again. (As I said on the forum)

Do we really beleive he deserves another chance?? if we werent so finacially screwed he would have been shipped off ages ago.

Another loan for Oxlade-Chamberlain

As I think we all know by now Oxlade-Chamberlain is the son of former Pompey winger Mark Chamberlain and the brother of Arsenal's & England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Cook - Notts County another tough game

Pompey's form at Fratton has been impressive this season with our home return coming against Notts County off the back of wins at Leyton Orient and a point at Plymouth last Saturday.
