Knowing me knowing you - ruffcider

Knowing me knowing you - ruffcider
1 - Vital Pompey username?
ruffcider.

2 - Where do you come from/where do you currently live?
I live in Somerset in a small city called Wells, which is about 6 miles from Glastonbury. It featured on the film Hot Fuzz, which was filmed entirely in Wells under another name, and for anyone who's seen it, it isn't really like that!

3 - How long have you been a Vital Pompey member?
I'm unsure, 18 months? (Written April 2009)

4 - What do you think of Vital Pompey? Be brutally honest!
Its quality, a great place for airing views and understanding opinions different from your own, and a place where I can talk to fellow pompey supporters with humorous and intelligent insights, not like a certain other site that just erupts in abuse!!

5 - How did you find out about Vital Pompey?
I'm a big newsnow addict....especially around the transfer window, I've recently learnt what F5 does thanks to that site.

6 - When did you first watch Pompey live - not on box unless this is the only way you have been able to see them? Not necessarily at Fortress Fratton though.
I come from the middle of Somerset from a family not at all interested in football, it was only due to the playstation that I ever got into it myself, I liked sports games and fifa01 was popular with friends, after a while I realise I knew a lot of players and kind of got sucked in. I chose Pompey because they were a Southern team with no money (I'm not a glory hunter) and an English manager, who could make bargain signings and put together a team who could compete. Having no friends in Portsmouth it took a while to arrive, but the Everton game in the great escape was my first, we lost, to a very poor goal, the one that seemed to take forever to cross the line.

7 - How often do you get to watch Pompey?
With a travelling time of over 4 hours from door to door, it's hard. I work in London during the week and need to see my kids and lady at weekends. I've a boy whose 18 months and a girl whose nearly 3, so hopefully I can take them in a few years....anyone know when I should start that? What age? I make sure I go about 3 times and listen to the quay, online streaming and skysports, whichever I can get.

8 - Who is your favourite Pompey Player - current and/or former?
Since I've been involved, De Zeeuw, Berger, Stone and recently, the inspirational Johnson, Diarra, Benji, Taylor, Crouch, in fact any player that gives everything for the cause.

9 - What is you favourite Pompey moment?
The FA cup. The best Pompey team, hard to beat, big, lots of skill, and the aura around the team at that time was electric. After the Asia Cup it really did feel like something could happen that year....and it did.

10 - What are your realistic hopes for Pompey in the future?
Retain our Premiership place and if no buyers come in, balance the books a bit more, sacrifice for stability. No disrespect intended but Mark Hughes or Bilic for manager. Fratton expansion, training ground. See some quality breaking in from the reserves.

I started going at six, my attention span wasn't great, but I obviously enjoyed it, as it was forty-four years ago! Only trouble is it can seriously damage your health, wallet, weekends and life in general. FA cup wins and promotion don't come round very often!

Good to know a little more about you rufficider - Having lived in Devon for a while (not now) I know all about Ruffcider as I'm sure you do. As for what age to take the kids to football (Jeez it was bad enough taking Mrs Chix once!) my girls are 2 & 5 and the longer they are into ballet and all things pink the longer I have in the pub ..;) .. I'd be different if I had a son though..

Took my eldest at 5, he was a pain in the arse then, he's just turned 12 now and is a season ticket holder, been an intermittent fan since about 8 though, anything before 5 is more of a waste of money in my opinion!

Nice to know more about you ruff, I remember that defeat to Everton game. Just signed Mendes, Davis & Noe from Spurs & we expected great things straight away. Memory says it got worse when we got stuffed 5-0 at Birmingham the following week.

Funny thing happened on monday...little kid about 5 or 6 walking up the stairs between seats on the south stand when a seated fan let fly a volley of abuse along the lines of "F off Mullins you f'ing useless ****!" so the little lad said "You tell 'im, mate!" at which the lairy fan went a bit pink and said "Now don't go repeating that sort of language at school, sonny..." I was also half amused and half horrified to hear a very young voice shouting "break his legs" when a Sunlan striker was going on a mazy run.

Fortunately, for my wallet, none of my kids like football. l have tried even took one of them once but alas no interest. The wife does like football however and she drags me along with her.
