Honouring Linvoy!

Honouring Linvoy!

Even so, I feel that even more needs to be done to give the man the recognition he deserves.

Although I am usually a cynical so-and-so, my thoughts turned to the New Year's Honours list because I know that it is possible for ordinary people like you and me to nominate people who have made a significant contribution to their community. I don't know what Linvoy's thoughts might be about this but I guess that he would welcome any positive publicity for his charity and community work for the sake of promoting those activities themselves rather than to satisfy his own pride. After all, if he doesn't approve of it, he can turn it down!

I have downloaded the forms off the government website and have put together an application which focuses on the extent of his charity work both in the UK and overseas and highlighting the respect, affection and admiration in which he is held in Portsmouth in particular. I also mentioned his role in Portsmouth FC's outreach work with local youngsters through sport and literacy. It was important to point out that his "day job" as a Premiership footballer has allowed him to get good press coverage for his charity work and this, combined with his character, makes him a brilliant role model for our city's kids.

I need at least two letters in support of this application which can be sent off so if anyone is willing to do this, they need to write a formal letter out focusing on his community and charity work. If anyone knows more details of the local community work he's done that would be helpful.

Please PM me and I will give you an address to send it to me so that I can collate the material and send it all off in a big bundle. They do warn that it can take 12-18 months for this to get processed so don't get grumpy if he is not on by Christmas. I can't imagine I am the only person who has thought of this and it may be that people have tried and failed in the past but, given that I don't know any better, I am going to give this a shot.

Fantastic idea, Hammersmith, good luck with it. Don't feel able to do the letter myself, but hopefully you'll get enough, and I'm sure there'll be loads of support around the city in general.

Well it may be something that could & should happen & there is plenty of years in Linvoy to justify such an honour. It was a great Pompey moment, just a shame he wasn't on the pitch for longer. Maybe he'll get a good run out at Wigan?

What I could do is write an article on his background in Sunday Toast and members could use that to form their letter.

great idea.Hammersmith.I also like Dave's plan of a toast on Sunday when we all might be able to show what Linvoy means to us.

That's fantastic - hear hear HSB! I'm sure I've read in the past that he's done some work with schools in the Portsmout area. Perhaps if you were able to contact one of them regarding the letter it might help his cause. I'm sure that a letter from a head teacher would carry a fair bit of weight to it.
