Pompey's best 11 - knocker

Pompey's best 11 - knocker
Hi I'm knocker and recently signed up to vitalfootball and would like to send my best 11.

Although I think a lot of the current squad will become some of the best players I have made my selection from when I started going to Fratton Park in the late 1980's. So here are my choices and why:

GK - Alan Knight - Although Jamo is a better keeper 803 appearances and 22 years say it all LEGEND.

LB - John Beresford - Great attacking fullback with an eye for goal.

RB - Gianluca Festa - Only 1 season but thought he played a great part in our promotion team and I could not remember many other good right backs.

CB - Kit Symons - Cool as a cucumber and a good footballing brain.

CB - Linvoy Primus - Rock solid and 100% every game without fail (hope to see him in a pompey shirt again.)

LM - Preki - Top player in a not very good Pompey team.

RM - Darren Anderton - Great crosser of the ball and pivotal part in our great cup run 1992.

CM - Martin Kuhl - My first favourite player hard as nails and banged in a few goals too!

CM - Robert Prosinecki - Best player to pull on a Pompey shirt absolute genius even on 40 a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ATT - Guy Whittingham - Superb goalscoring record for Pompey and formed deadly partnership with Walshie.

ATT - Micky Quinn - Deadly in the six yard box probably because he could not get back.

I think this would be a good attacking team and I think Whittingham and Quinn would score a hatful.

Thanks, knocker.

Selected by knocker in February 2008.

No right or wrong...
Remember there is no 'right or wrong' it is the opinion of the individual who is selecting, people might not agree but it is their call, so lets respect this.

PLEASE NOTE
This feature is another that has not been run for a while, and again I apologise for this, but I hope that others will be keen to do their 'best 11'... click below for more info!

Hello knocker, nice to meet you! Nice to see your best XI. Festa really was a brilliant player and shame he did leave after 1 season. I agree with your Prosinecki selection - what a player and imagine how awesome he would've been if his best mates weren't Lambert & Butler!!

Agreed Rug. He really was something special - we always used to try and get Steptoe & Son theme tune going but we never could lol. I think he may have something to do with my Croatia obsession....I saw him at Zagreb airport when I was there last October with the rest of the squad - what a legend.

Some great names from the late 80s early 90s. Saw them all play, yep some memorable names.

Rug - you are the master of the understatement!! Selected Feb 2008 published March 2009 and 'sorry for the delay' :D.

Good selection though from an era when we lacked any real quality at times. Don't forget Toast will always publish 'Your Worst XI'
