Stoke looking to emulate Pompey!

Stoke looking to emulate Pompey!
He is quoted on Sky sports as saying that Stoke are in exactly the same position as Pompey when we were promoted.

He believes that Stoke need to buy in 3 or 4 class players with experience to help them survive. Personally I believe it takes more than just the players; it takes a positive game plan, good coaching and backroom staff.

A fervent crowd goes a long way, as does a Chairman not afraid to back his club.

Griffin mentioned our position in the Premiership now and of course our magnificent Cup win.

How times change. When we came up we looked to the likes of Bolton and Middlesborough and used them as a benchmark. It now appears Championship sides look at us as a realistic and enviable position to be in.

Personally I feel immensely proud of all we've achieved; long may it continue.

It is a good feeling to think that all these teams now want to do a Pompey. I don't think Stoke have what it takes though, but we shall see.

i think stoke have a better chance than hull, but i will be upset if we cannot do a double over them both. look at derby. we drew against them first game of the season, no-one thought it was bad, but if you look at their league position, then we really should have won that game. i believe we can improve on last years challenge, and go for a top 5 finish. we need to cut out these stupid losses.

It is fantastic that we are used a benchmark. Let's hope we stay there for many years to come. Stoke will do very well to survive. At least when we play them at FP we can sing 'Are you scummers in disguise'.

Around 65 points would be nice which I think we should have hit this year, but for the poor end to the season so maybe a minimum of 65. Stoke will have a hard time. West Brom best chance for me. but you never know.

I think next year might be harder for us .. Expect Spurs and Newcastle to have better season and be up there with us Everton, Villa & Blackburn that 5 teams challenging for 5th place.. although Blackburn may struggle if they lose Hughes and I'm not sure Man City will feature so highly next year ... but we'll have to wait and see ,,, I'd settle for one better than last season (7th) .

Agree Chixy an improvement of one place would be acceptable with a run in one of the cups as a must. Wigan and Fulham and the three promoted clubs in the relegation mix up.

Yep agree Dave.. On the Stoke wanting to emulate us thred .. I read an article in the East Midlands Gazzette by a Derby fan/Journalist also stating that Popey were the team to look up to too... Looks like we are the 'trendy' team at the mo.. Or at least one who can no only survive but prosper in the prem after a few years of struggle
