'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Happy Anniversary

That great day 69 years ago is one of the few real treasured moments in our history.

As arguably, our best team in modern footballing times, is on the verge of making another slice of history, we look forward to remembering 17th May in a similar vein.

I reasonably regularly take my dog to a beach just outside of Plymstock. I use the route as i have to go to plymstock for the 14 years ive been down here, But...just prior to the Semi i noticed the name of one of the pubs on the way for the first time. It is called the "Blue Peter" but i noticed the board had a picture of a race Horse on it then underneath the picture it said " Blue Peter the winner of the 1939 Derby"An Omen I shouted.

In the late 80's I purchased a VHS cassette 'Early Cup Finals' from British Movietone News. It has film of 12 Cup Finals from 1932 to 1950 including our 4-1 win in '39. Watched it again last week - hadn't seen it in years. What does come across is how Pompey were the first to & won every ball. Our 2008 team should follow Guthrie's boys example! PS You can get this VHS on Ebay if you interested - Pre War Cup Finals were very different!
