Pompey's best 11 - UKTony

Pompey's best 11 - UKTony
God this is hard!!

I discounted people I've never seen play and then assembled the rest of the names (and believe me there are lot) in a big pile!

I then picked out people based on memories and this is what I came up with.

-----------------------------Knight-----------------------------

Primus----------Blake----------Campbell----------Taylor

Hilaire----------Tait----------Merson----------O'Callaghan

---------------------Biley----------Hiron---------------------

Please don't ask me why I picked those particular names at the expense of others, I just don't know. I'm sure if I sat here long enough, I could come up with 2 or 3 more starting line ups, each of which would be perfectly good.

Equally, I can't decide whether they would make a good team, or whether they are just a selection of exciting individuals who would play their heart out for Portsmouth.

Selected by - UKTony in January 2008.

PLAY UP POMPEY!

No right or wrong...
Remember there is no 'right or wrong' it is the opinion of the individual who is selecting, people might not agree but it is their call, so lets respect this.

Big 80's influence there, which shows your age!! With two attacking wingers, Yosser Tait has a lot of defending to do, so no problem there then. Good one Tony I'm afraid I will never finish mine.

I keep starting, then tearing it up and starting again! Still, I'd probably have Linvoy in there, what a guy! Cally! Memories, Hilaire, used to fly down that wing, and Biley, (nearly) everybody's favourite! Would find it hard to look past Jamo in goal tho tbh.

What a team... exiting on both wings especially the left. And what a defence ..very solid in the centre. Yosser adding some grit in the middle to mersons flyer and creativity. "Charlie" a selfless forward knocking down headers to Biley to pop home. excellent. And sir Alan between the sticks. Harry would have to manage with Bally as assistant..sorry Tony i was so excited ive got all excited and startred picking yur manager

Some great players of the 80s. Your right, you could pick 2-3 starting X1 & keep changing your mind.

Demand away Rug; I can't do it :). I've already decided a couple of players in that team shoud be replaced (a harsh word but I can't think of anything else at the moment). As you say Simon, Jamo is an obvious one.

Well done Tony, it is difficilt to pick a side isnt it? but great to see the two wingers in tandem again, they were a pair of decent players werent they?

On this day in history...13th February

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 13th February.

Big Ben returns!

There's no doubting how important Davies is to us, we most definitely missed the former Sheffield United man against Orient but Cook's confirmed he'll start against Bristol Rovers.

Winning over the fans

Cook feels he still has to 'win over a proportion' of the fans at Pompey?

Tubbs surprised...in a way he has a point

5-goals in a combined total of 8-matches isn't a bad return is it so having made his move to Eastleigh this week I get Tubbs' point at his surprise Cook wasn't selecting him.
