Bolton 0-1 Pompey

Another 3 points on the road, but the performance was much to be desired.

We were out of sorts in the first half, understandable perhaps with Distin still out and Diop coming back in, but we didn't get things moving at all. Bolton played like they always do, long balls up all day long, which caused our defence all sorts of problems. Hermann was having difficulties with Davies and things looked to become worse, with Noe coming off. I'm not 100% sure, but the first half performance can be summed up with the fact that we didn't have any corners, or any shots on goal!!! Bolton however, had a fantastic opportunity, when a ball was flashed in the box, and somehow Taylor missed from 3 yards out!! That was the highlight of the 1st half, with the atmosphere worse then a funeral. We overall were quite simply boring!!

Second half started the same as before, with Bolton using the long ball technique, towards the ever-tiring Hermann, who just couldn't handle Davies. Taylor again missed a glorious opportunity 6 yards out, which he put wide, and the worst player on the pitch, the Herminator, made up for his shocking display, with a clearance off the line.

The game then became scrappy, and with 20 minutes remaining I couldn't see a goal. The inclusion of Utaka for Kranjcar did however lift our performance, and a goal came from a mistake from O'Brien, which bounced to Diarra, who lashed it in.

From then, we looked nervy, with the fans in full voice Bolton pressed and nearly found the goal. Poor defending again from Hermann, led to a ball being passed to a Bolton player, whose shot was either deflected by Lauren over, or James made a wonder save? If it was James, who saved the point range effort, that is the best save I have ever witnessed. Bolton didn't threaten after that. And we passed the ball around nicely, until the whistle finally blew.

We played poor today, and if that was a top four team or even a mid table team, we could of easily lost. Credit to Diarra, who I thought was fantastic, world class, and Jamo, who yet again showed why he's the best keeper in the country, worth staying up to watch his save if he did make it!! Two other pluses, Diop played well and Aubey making his debut after Noe got injured really impressed me and he could be our permanent left back with performances like that.

The negatives did however outdo the positives, with Hermann having a shocker, Hughes a bystander for most of the game and Niko not involved at all. Defoe didn't look up for it, and wasn't involved. And Baros, well he tried but he couldn't get passed Cahill, who I thought was Bolton's best player.

MOM: James and Diarra
Substitute of the Match: Kanu, what a difference he makes :)

intresting one this (good report by the way) - bolton completly dominated everything up until the 80th minute - and then from bthe 85th minute onwards. HOWEVER, on the LIVE thread, just after half time, we came to the conclusion (well someone else did...and i agreed) that we would wait for bolton to tire, bring on utaka, nick a goal, then go back to defendng. then, about 30 seconds before utaka came on, both rug an i said (something along the lines of) "bolton are tiring, time for utaka" - then all of a sudden, he came on, we scorred, then went back to defending. was it all part of harrys masterplan???

Just got back from the Reeebok, hope everyone gets home safely, that was daylight robbery wasnt it, Jammo you are the best in the business, what a performance. In the programme he was putdown as the ex-England goalkeeper, that will teach them. We were better with Kanu than Baros, but thats another three points in the bag. See you all at Preston, our name must be on the cup surely.

just got back and that was a dreadfull performance but im 11.50 up so god knows how but we must have won. should we feel guilty.... no stuff em... despite us playing the second worst performance i have seen, still no.. i didnt understand why HR didnt pick Mendes but after 10 mins i got it, from my seat with the compliance of the ref Bolton fielded mostly thugs and cheats who play the ugliest football that dares disgrace our league. Were they bitching outside the ground yes, were they bitching last year after we battered them and another dreadfull refereeing performance allowed them beat us 0-1 no of course not. Trotters complaining playing pig ugly football, nothing changes. Positives for us, Diarra, Aubey,3 points and the plane departed on time. Negatives traori injury looked bad, in fact with out GlenJ the team looked bad.

was that jamo who made that save? It was so good taht I thought it was lauren, if it was him, then that is unbelievable, yep played crap, never got going, but I hate bolton, hate the ground, hate the players, and I hated that bloody asian linesman!!! He was the most biased man on earth!! Sorry about the shortish report by the way lads, I might however right a second on on david james wonder save!

Ahhhh well Muntari is back so we can start to dream of that wonder partnership with Diarra. Apart from the Chelsea game we haven't played well for months. You may concur with the Arsenal game but that wasn't playing well, that was being gritty. I hope we can get a run going again and do it playing ze beautiful football. Blimey I'm starting to sound like a Spud or a Barcode.

Defoe didn't look up to it? That is a suprise and probably why he now wears a Pompey shirt cannot play against teams with defenders bigger than him and since that is all teams good luck with getting 10-12 goals out of him.

do i sense sour grapes from a spurs fan... i said during the game that bolton are a dirty side - sorry bolton fans but you are... i feel a sense of justice now, bolton did us last season at fratton it was payback time today, but good luck to them for the rest of the season - they'll be fine... havent seen the jamo save again yet as ive only just put football first on as i recorded it while i was out at the cinema.

How do we play so well one week and so badly the next? We won because David James had the best game I've seen from a goalkeeper ever; Matt Taylor was worse than Benji last year ( i was never a great fan of Taylors as he thinks he is a great striker and goes for it too often without scoring. He lost the game for Bolton today);and thenks to the referee . In fairness the 2nd ref was blindsided and couldn't see who had the last touch of the ball before Diarra (if in doubt the attacking team gets the benefit of doubt) and the main ref was too far back to see. Some you win some you lose. It was just unfortunate for Bolton as they didn't deserve to lose.Benji v Defoe- I'm out on this at the moment. Defoe didn't do much but then neither did Benji for the first season. Baros v Nugent- Neither has set the world on fire but I think Nugent has more potential and we have already paid for him. I know I will get flak for this but I think Campbell IS too slow and has been found out too often. I liked the look of Aubey and think he could be our best buy behind Diarra.

Russellm ; we may have played more games but we have an easier run to the end of the season. Stillthewizz; i agree that for many games we have played crap and got away with it. We have also been helped that the teams around us have been just as bad. We have top talent but not a top team when they play together. We are a team of champions but not a champion team. Are the team coached seperately as strikers, midfielders or defenders and never actually get to practice combining as a team. They rarely seem to "flow" in a game.

campbell is getting a little snd HOPEFULLY, cranie can come in, as he was a star performer at qpr, and for the england u21s, hopefully when he has recovered from his injury he can come in ad slowly take campbels place. either that, or we can sign cahill, as he was very impresive for bolton.

Carpet, we have no money to sign any more players. We haven't paid for Defoe yet. He's still just on loan. Baros is on loan. Aubey is on loan. We actually did really sign anyone during the transfer period if you exclude acadamy and young up and coming players. All we did was give Benji away. As for Cranie, I could be wrong, but I think we still owe half of the transfer fee for him as well. Do we all chip in to help SASHA out?

Sorry correction. We did sign and pay for Diarra. The best signing yet and already re valued at about 17 million by the newspapers. So I hope that he really was a signing. If 17 million is on offer in the summer what are the odds of him being at Pompey next season?

we only paid something like 400,000 for cranie - so if we have not paid that up i would be amazed... i would also be amazed if we got 17m for diarra tbh - yep, the way that transfer go we should get that for him, but we have drawn a 'clause' into his contract apparently that lets him go for x amount havent we, and i doubt it will be that high, i would think we put it at around 10m?
