Was that a dream? Or have we just won...?

It wasn't a dream, Pompey have finally ended their winless streak! At the 24th time of asking, Pompey have conjured 3 points and now our season should be rejuvenated. I think it's safe to say we won't stay up, however Pompey may finally of found that spark that could see them win a few games and go down fighting once more. Now with only 1 loss in 5, 3 draws and a long-awaited win, The Blues can finally be more pleasing to us- The Fratton Faithful. Pompey's first win in 134 days was sealed from 2 first half goals that were scored by Patrick Agyemang and David Connolly.
Pompey nudged ahead inside 6 minutes with Agyemang turning his marker inside the box and slotting a very tidy finish back across goal into the bottom corner which saw the Express FM commentary team and the travelling away fans go absolutely ballistic. The joy was not over though as just before the half an hour mark, Pompey struck again.
Agyemang turned provider as he worked the defenders and sent a cross to the back post where veteran Connolly was on hand to volley a neat finish into the back of the net and send everyone ecstatic. From the commentary I heard, Pompey bossed the first half and completely deserved the half time lead.
Tides seemed to change in the second half though as Crewe battled to find a way back into the game. Pompey stood firm and held their own until the 63rd minute when Mathias Pogba capitalised on some scrappy scenery around the Pompey goal. Byron Moore saw his effort excellently saved by Pompey keeper Simon Eastwood but managed to take a second swing and his effort was tapped in at the far post by Pogba.
Nerves began creeping in and I'm sure every Pompey fan would agree that you had no finger nails left after the game. Wave after wave of Crewe attacks came at Pompey but the Blues remained strong, with captain Johnny Ertl making some vital tackles and clearances.
Pompey nearly grabbed another goal on the counter when substitute Adam Reed saw his curling effort smash of the foot of the post and away. However Pompey managed to hold on through the second half and came through 4 minutes of extra time that seemed like a lifetime to get 3 points. Pompey fans in the Ice Cream Van Stand cheered through the whole match as Pompey fans do and their consistent backing of the team was rewarded. Whittingham and Awford were beaming with delight after the game as the duo secured their first win in charge of Pompey.

Star Player

From what I could hear, captain Johnny Ertl pulled off another outstanding performance in the middle of midfield and that is why he is my star player. It was always his name that was called when an excellent tackle was made and the big Austrian nearly grabbed a goal for himself in the second half when he charged through the Crewe midfield and saw his powerful effort palmed away. He pulled of a real captains display and saw his effort finally turned into gold.
Another instrumental player was clearly Patrick Agyemangon the day. His goal and assist was what sent Pompey to victory and his consistent battling and hard work deserves recognition. We have seen the 32-year-old class and ability and it is serving him well in Blues colours so let's hope he remains with us for the rest of the season.
