No repeat of FA Cup 2008!

3 losses on the trot for the Blues following a disappointing FA Cup tie. Fans were as fantastic as usual, trying to spur on a dismal Pompey who were striving for a win over triumphant Notts County. Pompey started brightly over the Magpies with a decent spell of possession in the opening 10 minutes however failed to test the County goal. From then, Notts took charge over a game they deserved to win as they isolated Pompey players and get hold of the ball brilliantly. Both teams came close with strikes coming off the woodwork and narrowly missing the frames. However it was County that struck first on the stroke of half time with Francois Zoko nodding home from close range. Second half proved dreadful for Appy's men as shocking football from the Blues followed the interval. Loss of the ball was frequent and sloppy and no players managed to step up to make the difference. It got worse for Pompey as Yoann Arquin smacked home a header after poor defending from Adam Webster. It didn't seem like our day as only a few minutes later Scott Allan saw red on his Fratton return for lashing out on Jamal Campbell-Ryce after a fiery few minutes on the pitch. Handbags then started flying as the incident occurred right by the dugouts and both sides players and staff got involved in a 20 man scuff. Pompey's first team coach Ashley Westwood was sent to the stands following the incident as apparently he was too aggressive towards a County player. I still wonder how County ended the match with 11 men as many harsh and rash tackles came flying in form the Magpies, but the Ref was too inconsistent to discipline them properly. It was never the Blues day and the only real chance of the second half came from a late 30-yarder from substitute Jon Harley that could only be parried away by ex-scummer keeper Bialkowski. However the game finished at 0-2 and the visitors progress to the 2nd round of the Cup Pompey bagged a seemingly a lifetime ago and go knowing this was there second victory over the Blues in 2 months. Disappointing may be an understatement as the Blues lose again through a poor performance and it's a fair reflection on the game's play, unlike recent results away from home but it's time Pompey return to winning ways and this can be accomplished on Tuesday night as Pompey welcome Brentford to Fratton Park for the first time in 18 years for a 19:45 kick off.

Star Player

No one stood out for the 6.57 Crew but at gunpoint I would have to say Mustapha Dumbuya. The Sierra Leone international managed to make a few decent runs down the right hand flank and also got in a fair few successful challenges. His pace is a big plus as he managed to win back lost balls and take on County defenders. Although not a dazzling performance, it was a satisfactory one from the little right-back.
