The one and only Pompey pre-season friendly at Fratton Park took place this afternoon with Bolton coming to town as Pompey ran out comfortable winners 3-0!
To think, not so long ago, this was a premier league fixture but Pompey are now in league one - hopefully - and Bolton the championship...
Only one new trialist was on show today, Chelsea youngster Conor Clifford. The Irish midfielder is described as 'an exciting prospect' and is lined up to come in on loan if/when Appy is given the green light to make transfers 'if' we survive the threat of liquidation of course!
A number of other trialists, some we have almost become accustomed to, were again on show.
As with the Aldershot game in midweek it was Pompey out of the traps early with Kieran Djilali putting us ahead early on. Not content with that on the 15-minute mark Liam Lawrence fired home a 25-yard freekick to make it 2-0! Not a bad way to say goodbye to the Pompey fans eh.
Tal Ben-Haim once again received dogs abuse from the 4,000, or so, Pompey fans in attendance with chants of 'off, off, off' aimed at him at one point when he fouled a Bolton player.
Morris, who started in goal during his trial again, made a couple of good 1st half saves as did Eastwood, still on trial with us, when he came in for the 2nd half with a save the springboard to keeping it at two-nil, which then got better as Harris headed home to make it 3-0 early in the 2nd half!
Three-nil Pompey, almost the same Pompey spanked by Gibraltar 4-0 not so long ago...
From the sounds of it we played some good football, cracking football at times, as we did in midweek with this team of 'misfits' starting to gel into something more.
Theoretically this 'could' be the final game that Pompey play at Fratton, in our current guise, but lets just hope it is not eh and pray Appy can have a chance to bring his 'dirty dozen' band of trialists together, as we might just have a chance of surviving in league one if he does.
What a MASSIVE week we have coming up in our 114-year history...
PLAY UP POMPEY!
