Pompey spanked in Spain

Brighton
5 - 1
Pompey

Barceló Montecastillo, Spain

24-07-12

Attendance:

Referee:

Our band of kids and trialists were beaten again as our Spanish tour ended with south coast rivals Brighton spanking us 5-1.

There was no place for Howard this time, although Gibraltar's Walker did get his chance after earning a trial following an impressive showing on Friday night, with the midfielder apparently coming close to scoring in the 1st half?

Preece was handed the gloves and he was the unfortunate one to be beaten on all five occasions, fellow trialist keeper Perez kept a cleansheet for the final 13-minutes!

Hoskins had Brighton ahead after 11-minutes with Sparrow soon adding another. Two become three when Vicente, the architect of our undoing away to them in the league last season, added another.

There was some joy for us on the stroke of half time though when Dan Thompson scored, having come on for Izale McLeod, who I assume had picked up an injury?

Vincelot extended the Brighton lead early in the 2nd half with Agdestein the final scorer just after the hour.

Brighton either took their foot off the gas or took pity on us after this, as did the referee who just showed Ashley Westwood, our new coach, a yellow card when it could have (and would have in league action) been a red.

Appy can now gather his troops and bring them back to England, how many of these turn out for Pompey again remains to be seen, if we will even make it into the league one season will be known on Friday 10th August...

Not to worry, I'm sure they gave a good account of themselves against an established team. Looking back I think I was a bit hard on the lads after the Gib game. At the end of the day they'd barely even had time to talk to each other let alone play as a team together...

When i saw the headline I thought we were well and truly thumped!? Jeez that score will be a narrow defeat this season, so something to take a positive from! ;-)

Thanks for the ray of hope, Penton! I've never liked Brighton and their manacher doesn't help, either.
