Pompey finally get something on the road

Pompey finally managed to notch up a point on their travels, the game seemed to have many parralels with our Ipswich performance, solid defence and some sloppy finishing.

Pompey never really let Palace have a sniff of goal all game, the best chances fell to the team in black, Pearce hitting the bar with another header and Kitson and Lawrence both heading over when both should of the very least tested Speronni in goal.

Pompey decided against risking Halford for the game, Mokoena came in at right back , Ward resuming in midfield.

Pompey made the brightest start breaking quickly on the counter, the move though came to nothing, at least Pompey weren't behind already though.

Pompey had a much more solid look abouth them, the wide balls were being cut out and the ball closed a lot quicker.

As the half progressed Pompey started to look the more likely, Lawrence was pulling a few strings and Palace were not getting a sniff.

Pompey almost got a first half lead when Speroni and Gardner got in a tangle and almost let in Kitson, this season they got away with it though.

Pompey almost took a deserved lead when Lawrence swung in a corner that Pearce met at the back post, his header though hit the woodwork this time and Pompey cursed their luck once more.

Joel Ward almost got a fortuitous goal on the stroke of half-time, his cross swirled toward goal and Speroni was at a stretch to claw it out.

Half-time arrived and it was goaless, music to the thousand plus Pompey fans after last saturday's debacle.

Second half and it was much the same, Palace pushed without getting past a well drilled back four and Pompey looked for a break.

Lawrence headed over when well placed and then Ward almost made the breakthrough, his shot from distance skipped off of the turf and hit Speroni in the chest, the ball though bounced to safety.

As time ticked away a stalemate looked inevitable, in the dying moments though came a golden chance to turn 1 point into 3, Huseklepp on for the stricken Lawrence delivered a pinpoint cross onto Kitson's head, his forehead though only sent the ball over the bar.

Star Player

Rocha seemed back to his best, a couple of great tackles and good positional play seeing that Henderson had a quiet night.

Brilliant game, brilliant atmosphere and brilliant turn out. Deserved to win! Gutted!

If Kitson had nodded in that chance we would have done, Nut. But if you don't score goals you don't 'deserve' to win. Something the new manager must address first.

super evening, just lacking that deserved winning goal. If they're 3rd in the league then we have nothing to worry about.

much better, set-up well - yep we went for a point but also had enough about us to try and get more, which we could not quite manage...
would have happily taken a point before the game, after it i am a 'touch' disappointed not to get more but will take this and look to us to build on it?

i was a bit miffed that young razak didnt get a run in the last 15mins but i suppose, had he come on, and palace scored gw & sg would have been slated for changing things (what can you do), so all in all, a damn fine result and something to build on. well done lads and well done the travelling support pup ppu
