Pompey 2 - Peterborough 3

Fratton

27/9/11

Attendance:

Last gasp gutter

Pompey had the tables turned on them tonight, Eric Huselkepp netted in the Fratton end deep into injury time once more, only this time we were kicking the other way.

Ironically on the night we were 10 times better than against Blackpool, the first 15 minutes were ok, the second half dominant, but where on saturday we stole the win and played badly, the reverse was true this time.

Riiss came straight into the side on the right, Lawrence switched inside and Ward dropped into his favoured right back position in place of the stricken Mokoena.

The game was hardly warmed up when Pterborough took the lead, Frecklington let fly from distance and Ashdown made a howler his predecessor was famous for, he got behind it but let the ball squirm free and go in off of the bar.

Pompey's reposte was instant, Huselkepp got on the end of a flick on and fired in a cross-cum-shot, the ball was heading wide but Zakuani tried to volley clear and found only the roof of his own net.

Frecklington got on the score sheet once more just after 20 minutes, this time Pompey could not clear their lines and the ball fell to the Posh player to lash home.

Jamie Ashdown was having a real mare now, Boyd fired in a shot which he again spilled, this time Sinclair could not profit, then under little pressure he passed straight to the away side, but again got lucky as it came to nothing.

Pompey fizzled out of it as an attacking option as the half wore on, the crowd becoming more disgruntled as time ticked on.

Second half and Pompey must have had a half-time rocket, their passing was crisper and they just looked sharper as a unit, Benjani almost fired home immeadiately, Zakuani redeeming his earlier error by getting in the crucial block.

Benji was to get his first goal since returning shortly after though, Huselkepp's cross into the box was diverted into Benjani's path and he did the rest, cue the pointy wavy celebration thing in front of the Milton end.

Pompey really had their tails up now, Mullins had a piledriver palmed over and then came an almighty scramble where 'boro twice cleared off of the line and countless blocks flew in.

Pompey were pushing hard for a winner, the ball though would not go over the line though, there was a big penalty shout for handball which was ignored, then came the sucker punch.

Pompey took a late late corner, the ball though was scuttled away and Peterborough broke fast down the right, Tunnicliffe shot across Ashdown and the retreating Huselkepp inadvetently diveted home, it was Pompey's turn to face a 90th minute hammer blow.

Star Player

Huselkepp ironically received the pitchside m.o.m award seconds before netting the fatal oggy, but for me it was unsung man Mullins.

It was a sickening end to an entertaining encounter where we deserved to win after our endeavour 2nd half. A win would have put us 2 points off the play-offs and right in the midst of the cluster of teams ahead of us, but now we're in the chasing pack with a tricky fixture against Leeds coming up.

only 12,102. Worrying.

We still don't have a regular goal scorer, defines is still messy, I didn't understand the first half tactics and I didnt understand why Rocha wasn't starting. Still, looking on the positive side ... er ....- the Hindhead tunnel is open so I get home much quicker.

When they're charging over the odds for a ticket it's not really surprising that only 12,000 are turning up. At the moment the only 2 things that will increase attendance is cheaper tickets or better football.

Cheer up... it's only football :-((

Most of the people I speak to that aren't going this season insist it's nothing to do with the ticket pricing, and much more to do with the boring dross being served up. Gone are the days when we used to chatter excitedly about the upcoming match all week....

Its taken me 24 hours and the bitter irony has still not quite sunk in yet - the last minute Erik the Viking goal in both games, blah blah. Stunned!
