Pompey frailties on show

Well, we can't say we were not warned, Steve Cotterill has cried that our squad is wafer thin, what with 2 players sat in the stand because of contract difficulties, another sat there because of red tape and one more because he picked up a booking in the 92nd minute at Leeds, Pompey's anorexic squad was evident, a quick glance to the bench and there was Tom Kilbey waiting to make a debut.

Ashdown and Ward both passed firness tests to make the team, while Liam lawrence although now officially a Pompey man was left to fester, although a Pompey player since August, his permanent transfer needed to have passed 24 hrs before kick off, but as the game was on the 1st, the day before was still 2010, so officially the transfer window was shut!

Pompey played their part in a truly scrappy first half, there were no real chances carved out until Andy Taylor volleyed home an absolute beauty to clinch his first league goal, Pompey could have no complaints about the quality of the finish.

The second half and Pompey were still without a cutting edge, Nugent was isolated up front, while Ciftci offered little to the side on his return and Dickinson was getting an absolute runaround from Will Buckley.

when the second goal arrived it was no surprise, Watford had started passing the ball around after Ciftci lost possesion in midfield, the ball was played through a static Pompey defence and Sordell was allowed to run unappossed towards Ashdown, slotting past him as desperately tried to narrow an angle.

2 goals down and the game was up really, still Nugent couldn't find any space, when he did the midfield couldn't find him anyway, this time it was Kanu to lose possesion, the 3rd was almost a carbon copy of the first, player robbed in midfield and then the ball slotted in behind a ridiculously high back line, this time the rampant Danny Graham was the beneficary of Pompey's charity, he too slotted home past an exposed Ashdown.

So there you have it Mr.Chanrai, us fans don't expect millions thrown at the team, but a couple of loanees or just 2 old faces on restructed deals will do us!

Star Player

Wasn't one really, Joel Ward battled manfully, but I am going to make an anti-MOM award to Ciftci for a totally anonymous display on his return, Dickinson in second place for some shocking positional play.

The silence re transfers is deafening. To wait until the last minute (assuming some are forthcoming) will be a big mistake with our small squad.

are you really surprised Blue? I have my own hunch as to why the silence, not what we want to heasr though i'll add!

I'd love to know your 'hunch' paultsmouth, other than the probability that BC has said NO.

The limitations of some of our players is now being exposed. The defence is suspect and static, midfield and attack wanting. "BC" has stated he wants his money out, which to my mind means nil future investment. Storrie contracts are limiting our few playing options. At best we stay in the Championship. The future is not full of happiness.
