Pompey lose a farce

Pompey played in one of the strangest matches they could wish for tonight, the match officials were more bent than Graham Norton.
Paris Cowan-Hall was sent off for 2 'bookable' offences, neither would of been bookings with a decent ref, and to rub his nose in it, he was brutally hacked down on more than one occasion with no Portugese getting even a talking to.

Cowan-Hall was adjudged to have given a penalty away and saw red for his offence, the pen was duly missed but Wilson headed the ball to a Guimares striker after to give away a soft goal.

David Nugent had put the ball in the net during the first period, another cool finish, but the referee was having none of that on his watch and ruled it out for offside, the way the match was officiated though, James or Begovic could of scored from a goal kick and been offside!

The second half also infuriated Paul Hart for another reason, Pompey tried to bring on John Utaka, but were told they were not allowed, only for Guimares to change half their team at half-time and again whenever they fancied it!
Vitoria's second goal summed it up really, one of their substitutes headed home to really wind up the Pompey bench.

Surely the idea of pre-season is all about match fitness, yet Pompey were denied the chance to field most of their players due to the absurd ruling, with Guimares getting a free-kick whenever they were challenged and Pompey getting punished for the most innocuous challenges, the reverse was true for the home side who were allowed to hack players down and get off scot-free.

Next up was a pointless penalty shoot-out, Pompey kept up with the theme of the night though and lost this as well!

Stupid game, i think vitoria had it all planned out from the start, when to dive, when to bring on 8 subs, when not us aloud to bring on a player, lol. Ridicolus!

Well done Paul and well done the officials. Seems like a farce glad I did not spend my hard earned cash to make the trip.

Hmm, I think it's safe to say Guimares have engineered this 'tournament' to ensure they win it. Farce and a half, and more than likely NOT what a frail Pompey squad need ahead of what is likely to be a difficult season.

Farce is absolutely what it was. As for one side being able to make as many subs as they like and the other can't - that must be a breach of UEFA rules, surely? The whole point of friendlies is fitness/preparation/looking at players and we were denied that. Seems we didn't learn from our experience at Braga that how unsporting and cheating Portuguese footballers can be.

I went to bed last night thinking "What was that all about" and woke up this morning thinking the same thing. It was nothing short of crazy, the ref was a total Donkey and as for Portuguese sportsmanship? The one thing positive that I did take from it was that our youngsters seemed to have put in a good shift and Nuge scored a cool goal albeit OS.

In years to come somebody (probably me) Wil ask the Quiz Question 'When did Pompey lose a game and still take part in a penalty shoot-out .. and why?' .. Well the first part of the question will be answered but as for the second well 'dunno' ... Strangest game I've ever listened too ..

Well...my soccerbipolar is having an “up” morning today..having not seen the nonsense last night having watched Grand Torino with my 18 yr old son, today I read with some enthusiasm the good reports about the young players in the game. So today there is a Hope, an irrational hope I know, in me that we will actually play some of these guys rather than purchasing some of the tired OAPS we have been linked to. I’ve also started to look at the potential team, and rather than compare it with the Everton’s and Spuds etc, but rather look at the Brum's and Hulls. I do now feel more confidant...However I do think Burnley will do well though. I am however also again seeing the folly of HR and his Mad spending that got us into the mess (but the FA Cup too to be Honest) but when you look at the likes of Taylor and O'Neil, who we would now dearly love at FP. But,, I am hoping that this really could be the birthing of something good…..So a top 10 finish for me, if we get Kalinic or McCormac to suppliment the top line with Zaki that would be a very good deal, and all of us Happy….where did I put my pills?...

It sounds a real farcical affair but if any of you went to Braga last season, when that match mattered, there the ref was a massive homer & that beat us with alltheir cheating diving!!!
