Pompey start to find their feet?

Pompey finally turned in a decent performance against non-league opposition, it was the third time of trying, but they did it in the end, little thanks to David Nugents hat-trick, all in the second half.

Pompey wasted no time in getting off the mark this time, Younes Kaboul heading home powerfully from a corner on 5 minutes. Whilst Pompey struggled to bury goals from corners last season, they mirrored the act minutes later, Cowan-Hall bundling home as the ball found its way to him from another set-piece.

Daniel Subotic was next to find the net, Tom Jordans' misplaced backpass sailed past Eastleighs 'keeper and Subotic could roll into an empty net.

Brett Williams got Eastleigh back in with 10 minutes of the half left, glancing home a header.

The second half saw the usual flurry of changes, significant was the apperance of Nadir Belhadj, maybe his 'move' to Hull isn't as cut and dried as the press has made out. The man to shine on the night, well second half, was David Nugent, he often resembles Bambi-on-ice when facing the goal, but he had his stabilisers on tonight, first slotting home an acurate finish, then blasting a volley, and to top it all a delicate chip, confidence up?

Nugent may well have heard the news from Spurs, Crouch has been confirmed in linking up with the Ginger one, our old manager has pillaged and sacked our City once again, he must love those warm welcomes when we meet!
Hopefully Crouch will be the last of the fire-sales, Kalinic is rumoured to be on the brink of replacing him, and Finnan has been released by Espanyol, others may be lurking, but time will tell.

I am excited about Kalinic, I hope he finds his feet quickly... We stiil need another striker, as Nugent is sometimes nowhere. Utaka might leave, but if he stays, he is also lost at some point! Our option - Benjani or Martins, before the latter goes to Germany.

Great to see Nuge grab three especially as he only came on on the hour and a good tonic considering Crouchy's departure. Kalinic also looks set to sign which is good but I think Martins is nailed on to go to Wolfsburg Malta.. As for Benjani the jury is still out, but if we want cheap hard workers we need look no further. A 'firing' strike force of Nugent and Benjani together could become legends in blue as virtually every fan would give them time and patience.

Glad to finally see that we can score goals! I am very worried though about the talk of Belhadj and Utaka leaving. We CANNOT afford to loose anymore first team players from our squad if we want to stand any chance of staying up, especially two more attacking players that Hart will probably replace with DMF's!

what was subotic like - he supposedly was going to be a fantastic player when we picked him up a season or two ago and sent him off to BElgium to learn the game?
jim4pompey
jim that is my worries about getting young players - we always are given the impression that they are good and will be there for the future. But before the future comes, they are lost somewhere along the line. Subotic has never played for Pompey 1st team and am hoping that he will this year. I wonder if he is up to standard though!
