Basingstoke 0 - Pompey 0

Camrose

25/7/09

Attendance:

Pompey show their teeth!!

Pompey showed their teeth all right, think Joe Jordan, Jocky Wilson or Shane McGowan and Jerry Dammers, you will get the picture!!

Pompey continued their pre-season warm-ups with a trip up to Basingstoke, after letting a 2 goal lead slip at Havant midweek, the long suffering fans hoped for something a bit better with more non league opposition.

Pompey started with 5 trialists once more, Audel, Bhasera, Bopp, M'bami and Pancrate all started once more, but David James was worryingly absent once more.

Basingstoke were first to show, on 5 minutes Audel was robbed of possesion, and David Pratt rattled Begovics post.
Pratt and Downes were proving lively enough for Pompey up front, and took until the 17th minute to find any attacking purpose of their own, Nugent firing wide from a decent Wilson cross when we would of hoped for better.

On the half hor Nugent was played in behind by Niko Kranjcar, but like so often last season fired straight at the 'keeper when he should really of scored.

Ashdown was the only half-time arrival, as Paul Hart decided to give his players further chance to prove their worth, but it was Downes who was denied by the woodwork for Basingstoke once more, smashing the bar once more, this did give Pompey a bit of a kick up the 'aris though, they played it straight up the other end and Kranjcar found himself in more space than Neil Armstrong, but our friendly neighbourhood Croat could only drag his shot horribly wide.
That was enough for Hart, and on the hour the usual ring of friendly changes occured, 10 in fact, another trialist in the shape of Charlton defender Moutaouakil, another of the 'gems' Hart feels he can polish up a couple of divisions.

Cowan-Hall and Subotic fared no better in the goal-scoring stakes, both shooting wide, while Basingstoke had chances to win themselves, but they tto were found wanting in front of the net.

All in all, another insipid display from Pompey, pre-season is all about finding some form, well Pompey have some serious digging to do to discover any so far.

its what, midnight now, just got home - bloody long day made even longer by the fact the final train i could get home left plymouth just as i came into it, as i feared it would...this meant hanging around plymouth for almost 2hrs - those that know plymouth will know its 'not that great', particularly at night...
anyway, enough about that - good god that was poor today, lets just hope 'rumours' im hearing that the croatian kid is 'flying in' on monday prove true as we seriously need a goal threat, along with a midfield threat, a central defender, a right midfielder, a right back lol!
i will have more to say on this game in the morning, but shattered now...

I know it's pre-season and I know it's early days but what worrys me is that while we are playing (poorly) against the like of HaWks and Basingstoke other premier league team are warming up against Kaiser Chiefs, Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan.. Which make it even worse in my book .. Poor displays against (with respect) Poor opposition

Not only is it just pre-season, but the Pompey sides fielded all only have a two or three first teamers and the rest seem to be traillists. So lets not worry too much about that - although I do agree we NEED some signings. Glad I didn't go to this though, at least the second half at Havant was a bit better. As for Jamo, he's still recovering from the shoulder op, so might be best not to risk him. Also I can 100% verify he was there at Havant - didn't play but was a few yards away from me signing autographs for kids and was sat in the stand, at least during the first half.
