Villa 0 - Pompey 0

Villa Park

Sat 18-10-08, 3pm

Villa 0-0 Pompey

Pompey went to Villa Park today as we played for the first time since beating Stoke prior to the international break. We came away with a very good point after a battling 0-0 draw - although we did have Sean Davis sent off.

pompeyhaz is the guest match reporter today, so once back and the report is with us it will be added, so a full report will follow...

It was a cracking game and I would have taken the point before the game. Davis sending off was harsh, what was the second yellow for? Jermain should have scored, and Jamo kept us in it, because Villa did shade it. Utaka - waste of space!
Good game,Fair result in the end i think.
Happy with a good away point, shame about the cards, Davis out now for Fulham or Liverpool game
I'm pleased with a point. Not much point watching Match of the Day later though! Anyone know anything about the official who was hot with a missile?
Happy with a point, especially when the ref and 'arry contrived to bring us down to 9 men!
utakas days certainly seem numbered, for a man with so much talent, he has so little desire
Squee, apparently the linesman was hit with a 50p coin that was meant for Arry - and appears to have come from the section that were giving him abuse, much like last season. I've heard the police are taking action. Unacceptable. Totally unacceptable. Doesn't matter who it was aimed at.
Re Utaka, when you consider the position we're in, that we have to sell players before we can buy to balance the books and the wage bill, its a scandal that he's still on the payroll, especially when you consider the likes of Mendes have gone. We have to offload him in January.
But chaps, from his press utterances this is Utaka trying his best. What's he like when he is not putting the effort in. I doubt if he would get out of the tunnel by half time!! My son earns in a year what he earns in a week, and risks his life doing it.
Thanks for filling me in Tracy - hope Villa get a rollicking for that. What the hell have they got against Harry anyway? Is it just cos he spoke out about the abuse he got at his last visit there? ...utter losers just like Spuds fans.
Sounds like a defensive masterclass from Sol too! Good point.
Excellent point against a very good team. We have come a long way since the mare at citeh!!!
Just seen on Match of the Day Wigan's second goal which was described by the pundits earlier as being 'goal of the season' - did anyone else see it? I reckon Crouchie's against Stoke the other week was better.
You only have to watch HR lambasting Utaka when linesman receiving attention to know what he thought of his performance - not much!!
surely neither of them compare to belletis goal?
squee - I agree, it was very similar to crouch's goal. Utaka I am on the verge of giving up supporting, as we can't afford to buy new players, and so someone will have to go. Little looked a bit slow though too...
carps, I know you have backed him and backed him, but Utaka is simply unsupportable. There's nothing more that can be said about him that hasn't appeared somewhere on the site.
Who the hell is going to buy him tho? He is just sooo lazy! I bet we get stuck with him till the end of his contract.
They loved Utaka in France, he'll go back there. If not we'll have him shot & claim the insurance money.
I'm sure there will be plenty of takers who think they can get the most out of his obvious talent. The thing is, I have done a little research now, and there are a couple of wingers we are being linked with for about his value, that look fairly good... I wouldnt mind the swap right now...
little was probably the slowest on the pitch on Saturday, and tbf has the turning circle of a lorry, BUT he put in the effort unlike Utaka. Traore seemed to miss his partner in crime Belhadj as well, and was surprised he was left out at the start. Diop had a good game, if he could pass better would be an excellent foil for Diarra
Diop gives one thing every team needs, effort. He may not be the most graceful, but every manager loves a trier
Did not see any of it over the weekend and have not read a match report yet. All I know is that we hait the post and Defoe missed a couple of sitters.
sorry about the lack of a report, ive still not had any response from pompeyhaz...
