Pompey overcame a nervy first half to blast through to the group stages of the UEFA cup. To be frank we were worse than awful first half, Guimaraes wipee the lead ou within half an hour and things looked grim, danger man Douglas scored the first, and Alves scored a long range daisy cutter for the second.
Half time couldn't come quick enough, 3-5-2 was more like 8-2 most of the half, Pompey were playing deeper than the squid like to roam. Harry obviously righted a few wrongs in the break, as we came out with the same team, but now Traore and Johnson were bombing forward at every opportunity, for all our possesion though Nilsson was not really seriously tested.
Extra-time was when it all came good, or rather the little break before it started, the cameras panned round and every Guimaraes player looked out on his feet, Pompey went for the throat.
The glory went to our one to watch from the preview, Crouch first scored a trademark nod in from a great Johnson cross, and then buried a beauty after a fantastic run by Belhadj.
Job done.
