Man Utd 2 - Pompey 1

Abuja stadium

27/7/08

Attendance: More than the day before

Utd V Pompey

Pompey finished their whirlwind tour of Nigeria with a defeat to Man Utd, second half goals from Eagles and Tevez downed Pompey, although Defoe pulled a late goal back to give the scoreline a better look.
Utd could have scored in the first 6 minutes, Tevez blasted his re-taken penalty against the crossbar after Glen Johnson had clumsily tripped Campbell.
Eagles also should of scored, he curled his shot wide when clean through on James.

Campbel was another to let Pompey off the hook, clipping a shot into James when a left-footed shot would probably of beaten him.
At the other end Pompey were confided to a couple of long distance blasts at goal from Crouch, Kranjcar getting robbed at the last in another instance.

Second half and the usual friendly subs started, but the tide was still flowing with a red current and Eagles side-footed high into James net to make up, for his earlier miss, Tevez scored into the bottom corner after turning Traore inside out not too long after.

As for Pompey Glen Little looked impressive on the left after replace Kranjcar, he crossed with both feet and showed great control, Crouch toiled against Vidic, but Defoe kept their goal-scoring exploits up with another fine strike.
On the negative, Pamarot and Utaka both went off injured, and Pompey were awful with the dead ball, both Defoe and Johnson blasted high into the crowd from good positions.

Star Player

Glen Little.
Showed more than most on a tricky pitch, and looked like one who wasn't going through the motions.

Not too impressive!!

Thought both Glen's were excellent. Do that pair of commentators do every match on MUTV? They must get on the tets of even the most hardline Man Ure supporter. Dreadful. Good to see Diop passing the ball to his own team for the whole match! The display wasn't that bad, we would have beaten most Prem teams, I think.

Now on to Ca[e Town to relax for a fewdays. No bad eh!

watched on the laptop gd quick game little loooked fantastic his touch and crossing was seceond to none . kranjcar , mendes , distin looked good , utaka was oky until he got injured but dadvid james kept us in the game with a few fantastic saves. Overall our first competitive game against world class team was oky but we need to keep the ball abit more and get more crosses in for crouch and defoe.

errr.... where was our midfield?

i didnt see or hear any of the game, but little sounds like he impressed - which does not surprise me as i think he will be a cracking signing...
i have seen the defoe goal since and it was a good goal, jamo 'might' be a bit unhappy with the 2nd goal conceded?
i hope the financial benefits of this tour will be worth it and no one comes back with any serious illness or injury...

I'm with Rug. Let's hope the trip was worth it. Wake up calls for a few too.

your midfield? hmm......well its on its way to Inter.

Those MUTV commentators annoyed me too. Its only a friendly I don't think we should get too concerned. What I can't figure is at the Navy Days this weekend they were advertising they had the FA cup. So how come Kanu was parading it before the game in Nigeria. ?????????????????????????

One thing those commentators said that really bugged me, was they referred to Ronaldo's wonder free kick last season as 'what usually happens'. In that case, Ferdinand 'usually' puts through his own net past Van der Sar!
