Pompey vs. Middlesborough

Fratton

Pompey v 'Boro

Arsenal were dealt with Boxing day, another 0-0 was more favourably met by the Fratton faithful this time, but another blank against 'boro probably won't get the same reception.

Vital Quotes:

Richard Hughes has stated his desire to hold down his spot, and if my opinion counts he has more than earned it. Davis and Mendes' ailments will probably give him free reign to continue anyway, Saturday has come too soon for both.
Diop has a bit of a knock, but Kranjcar who limped off against the Arse, has declared himself fit, nothing more sinister than cramp was to blame for his substitution.
Pompey have a monkey on their back now with the goalless drought, our defence reigns supreme, the forwards need to start raining goals, the Reading feast was great, but if I knew I had to waituntil almost the New Year for another goal I would have settled for a 1-0 win.

Pompey Team News:

Glen Johnson is hopeful of recovery for 'boro, but Lauren's performance should give him a bit more breathing space.
Matt Taylor looks doomed to the bench for a while longer, if he is still her in 4 weeks time remains to be seen, but the reception he recieved when entering the fray on Boxing day should give him heart if nothing else.

Player to watch: Benjani

The time has come for the goals to flow again, us Fratton fans are patient, but enough is enough, so Benji and Kanu need to start banging them back in front of the faithful.

Middlesborough Team News:

Gario is apparently being hampered by a hamstring injury, this would curtail a no doubt emotional return to Fratton, but we know if he can play, he will bust a gut to do so.
George Boateng is suspended, Taylor, Riggott and Mido remain absent.

Player to watch: Tuncay

The Turk is finding his feet in the Prem and looks most likely up front.

Match Facts & Stats

Not a happy ground for Middlesbrough, normally the goals fly in, lets hope it goes to type then

This is one of the last games before we lose a handful of players to the ANC and we will have to show a sense of urgency and get some results! I think it will show through in the score lines :)
whitestones
i think if we dont score, it will boderline embarrasing, no disrespect to the boro, but brum scored 3 past them, and beforehand had only scored 8 league goals all season at home.
PompeyGleamer
gotta score tomorrow, revolt if we don't!
paultsmouth
I agree fellas their Away form is dredful 10-2-2-6-6-18 we really need to bang some in tomorrow as this is the easiest fixture of the xmas period and we MUST take three points and to do that we must SCORE - a draw will not be good enough and a defeat a disaster - But after the display on Boxing Day I'm confident we will win this one comfortably .. 4-0 Pompey - Come on you Blues
Chix
Did Chix's last message contain a coded message or his mobile number lol. No got to be goals and a shame if GON does not play as he would would have had a great reception.
eastneydave
its got to be a pompey win and some goals too surely...
pompeyrug
goals goals everywhere, but they were all in 1 bl****y match. its time to score, and its time to be rampant. people are starting to forget about the mighty pompey bandwagon, so a healthy 6-0 win would be great. Boro arnt to dis-similer from reading, so i dont see why not? ^ take not, the last time i said that, it happened!!! (after one fella, master chix, said it was impossible)
pompeycarpet
Carpet - If the same thing can happen again I'd be the first to say it is impossible again ... or is the answer 9-2-6-1-11-7v10-2-2-6-6-18=6-0 let's hope so eh!
Chix
Don't know about raining goals, 1 or 2 will do for me!
paultsmouth
Yep - To be honest I'd take a deflected shot or an own goal if it meant we got the points today ... but I still think we might see a little more ..
Chix
Like Chix, a scrambled 1-0 win will make me happy. I honestly think that we will get 5 though; Boro are poor travellers and we've usually done well against them.
UKTony
I'll settle for a 1-0 win.
