Pompey v Blackburn

Pompey host Blackburn this evening who will no doubt be up for revenge, this after Pompey inflicted their only league defeat so far last month at Ewood.

Vital Quotes:

Pompey will be fielding the strongest available squad for tonights game. I full expect for Campbell to have a sore achilles after so many games lately, Muntari or Diop will no doubt have calf or groin strains etc.etc

Pompey Team News:

Pamarot will be hoping for a rare run-out tonight, with Lauren and Mvuemba looking to join him, Ashdown will feel he has done enough to hold onto his cup-spot, and Nugent will be hoping to make it 3 out of 3 in cup starts so far.

Player to watch: Taylor

I fully expect our penalty taker to start tonight, and if anyone has a point to prove right know, its Matt.

Blackburn Team News:

Savage is a definite absentee with housemaids knee, Mokoena should step in for him, and it all depends on how seriously Hughes is taking the cup as well, recent years suggest he takes it as route to the UEFA, so expect a fairly full squad for this one.

Player to watch: Bentley

He was Rovers' best player at Ewood, and when firing is a class act

Match Facts & Stats

Pompey are on top so far this season, but that counts for nothing tonight.

Ref Watch:

Ernest Grimplethwaite

Match Prediction:

Pompey to win 2-1!! Wembley here we come!

Next Fixtures:

Newcastle away

Oh, sad news about Noel. I remember very well from our tussles with Blackburn, in the early-mid 80s uner Bally. He was brilliant, flying down the wing, tore us to bits in one game. Though it will be a tough game & the 3 pts on Saturday are the priority, with a Q/F place awaiting, we may as well go for it.

we were bloody awful last night and got what we deserved - elimination from a cup that could have been ours... well done to blackburn, but we were poor, very, very poor and i cannot honestly remember being at a game when we have been so poor - and ive been to alot of games when we have played badly!

You are quite right mate, we were so bloody awful, all that promise comes to nothing again, same old Pompey, when will we ever be up for these big cup games, i was really angry about this one and the thought of getting home in the small hours did not help.

Was Nugents miss as bad as the papers are saying?

It was a bad miss, but thats how it goes for strikers isnt it?

ive only seen the miss in real time, no replays since or anything but from where we were sat it looked horrible, tbh i thought it was harder to miss than it was to score... the worse thing about last night we didnt even force friedel into a single save!

Thank you Mr Nugent - our decision to concentrate on the league was made admirably by you last night.....

walshwasgod, your a bit critical of him! he isnt wat we perhaps wished he would be, but we have to move on and spend more money to get a PROVEN quality striker.

no, WalshWasGod is very critical of him and personally i think overly ciritical of him... yep, we are entitled to our opinions but sorry mate nuge isnt to blame for our defeat - he missed a sitter but we were over crap.

ur right rug, we did suck...but, I guess its a different subject, Nugent, 6 mil, premiership, 2 yards out...you cant miss...you really cant miss, not at this level. Ive watched him three times this season,& every single time hes blown easy chances. Not just chance, but easy ones!!!....I never get on the players backs (well...maybe chalkius) but I seriously beleive, for his & our sake he needs to go in January. & yes Sachas bro...it was as bad as the papers say!!

ive seen him play against yeovil, bolton, arsenal, reading and blackburn and tbh i thought that he played okay in all these games... he looked to be trying too hard against yeovil and bolton perhaps and missed a chance against bolton when it got away from him, had a decent chance against arsenal that was deflected for a corner and looked very good against reading and was unlucky not to score. i did think he was very poor against blackburn, but then again everyone misses the odd sitter dont they - solano did it twice against us last week...
