Pompey vs. Bolton

On Sky

Pompey v Bolton

Pompey and Bolton are both striving for that first win, Pompey on the back of two draws, and Bolton two defeats.

Vital Quotes:

Pompey will be looking to build on the much improved second half performance against Man United, although injuries to the defence have left us somewhat stretched across the back.

Pompey Team News:

Pompey will be without Campbell again with his groin niggle, and Stefanovic and Primus are still no nearer to filling the void. Pamarot joined them on Wednesday after popping a hamstring. It will be a case of 'hands up whos' fit' for the defence, so Cranie, Traore, Hreidarsson, Distin and Taylor will be asked to plug the gaps.
John Utaka has called for an all Nigerian attack with Kanu joining him up front, but I feel Harry will go for Nugent and Benjani again, with Utaka in the wide role he currently impressing in. Mendes may struggle for this one also, and with Muntari suspended, it may mean Davis and Hughes in centre mid.

Player to watch: Benjani

Pompeys Zimbabwean is in the goalscoring form of his Pompey career, okay 2 in 2 is not going to get Real Madrid getting out the cheque book, but Benjani looks full of confidence, maybe having another workhorse in Nugent alongside him has taken some of the weight off his shoulders, and given him that extra yard of space to find.

Bolton Team News:

The two sulks should start up front, Pompey hate target Diouf, and Pompey strike target Anelka.

Gary Speed will marshall midfield for the 38th season in a row, and Andy O'brien may be asked to stop the goals flying in at the back, just 2 weeks after leaving Fratton.

Player to watch: Nolan

The scouser always seems to get a blinder against us, last seasons scorcher from the edge of the box, followed his overhead at the Reebok, keep him out and maybe we can get our first win under our belts.

Match Facts & Stats

0-1 last year in one of the most one-sided games of the year, and we lost!!

Match Prediction:

I'm going for a Pompey win for the 3rd game in a row, but actually have more hope this time, place your predictionshere.

Bolton are one of my bets to join the scummers next season so I'm expecting a decent win for us despite the reserve defence. Small, fat Sam is looking like a headlighted rabbit (and a detentioned schoolboy caught for something he hadn't done) in interviews these days and can't hope to match the gum chewing, Jabber the Hut of football, large fat Sam. A Mothercare high-chair has been installed in the Away dug-out so SFS can get a good view of the match and a box placed in the Technical Area in case he wants to issue instructions to his team. Stuff like 'try and score', probably. Ah well, that's the Saturday abuse out of the way, now, what times the ferry . . . . . ?

at least we have sussed very early that safety first will not work for us, its go for the throat and keep on jabbing

Need to hit Bolton early & smash what little confidence they have. It won't be easy but we do need to be attack minded. Hope to nick it 2-1.

Under the influence of Vino Rufo I have gone for 3-1 in the predictions league, how ever i think i have been way too optimistic, we have no first choice defence do we, is anybodyy confident in herman? Jamo isnt !. cranie is good but they will be up against Anelka and Nolan who are not bad by any means,. And the trotters boss mini me is bound to get lucky some time. I have a feeling that this one will come down to who's got the worst back line, and with our injuries i worry it is us.

That goal must have given Redknapp a lot of pleasure, he loves players who can do that and it's why he bought him in the first place
