Pompey vs. Man U

Fratton Park

Pompey take on Champs

Pompey welcome the champions of England to Fratton park, just a few months after continuing their great run of home results against the reds.

Vital Quotes:

Tevez is grabbing all the headlines as he lies in wait for his debut,he claims he is ready to 'write my own piece of history', he will have a lot to do, and expectations will undoubtedly be sky high from the fervent red supporters.

Pompey Team News:

Pompey's biggest worries appear to be over both Sol Campbell and Pedro Mendes, ironically two of Pompeys most influential players that missed last seasons triumph.

Gary O'Neil will hoping to play a part after suffering no further reaction to ankle, and Matt Taylor will be hoping to push Muntari into central midfield at the expense of Sean Davis.

Redknapp may decide to tinker about up front, Utaka has proven his goalscorng instincts already and may make the push forward, and Kanu will be hoping to step into either Benjani or Nugents boots also.

Player to watch: Campbell

If he makes the game, big Sol has a major point to prove to Steve McClaren after his complete ousting from the England set-up, the England manager has admitted he may have to call on both Campbell and Jamo again, and both will be out impress.

Man U Team News:

Rooney has bust his foot again and spends another spell in dry dock along with Gary Neville, so Tevez should step in for him, Nani and Andersson are both vying for a start, but Ferguson probably cannot afford to risk both so early.

Player to watch: Van der Sar

Not for his skills I go for the Dutchman, but the fact he feels under pressure for maybe the first time in his career, after a blinder in the penalty shoot-out at Wembley, maybe another one of those lapses in concentration is due?

Match Facts & Stats

Recent games at Fratton tend to go our way, close fought matches just edged by the Blues in front of raucous support.

Ref Watch:

As long as its not 'point to the spot' Wiley

Match Prediction:

Got to go for a Pompey win even if my head says different, Nugent to score? Oh go on then! If you think otherwise click here.

Get at them boys, we know how to beat them.
attack attack attack
agreed storage, sit back and we are lost, get at em, dont waste posession tight through midfield and positive, ... its an odd coincidence every time we do that we beat teams... i just cant fathom it out.....
We've nothing to fear from United, we are generally better than them at Fratton lets play our normal game (ish) and roast them.
agreed fellas, be possitive and have a go, put them under pressure. wes brown, silvestre and even evra will not like utaka running at pace at them... let them know they are in a game early with a few hard but fair challenges from sulley and co so they cannot settle. we can do them and we will!
Would like to make a I allowed Rug? Pretty please
Obviously its only based on my fantasy football choices, nothing personal
yep go for it - predictions are open to anyone...
Remember we are also Champions "Champions of Asia"
like Iraq
hope for a good game tonight lads. looking forward to seeing tevez finally but i must admit that your defence looks very strong and if campbell does make it we could be in for another frustrating night as i think he is a top class defender who should definately be back in the england team. it will be interesting to see what teams both field, but with ronaldo, tevez, giggs, taylor, kanu and that muntari guy (very impressive player to watch) all possibly on the same pitch together im sure we will be in for a great match. i just hope to god james has one of his off days :)
Well we haven't drawn with United yet in the Prem after 8 goes, so it's about time it finished EVEN. (1-1) for me.
i too think it will be a pretty tasty match! our defence is meant to be our strongest area, but if we defend like we did against derby we will get murdered by your attackers united4life... im sure adams has had a few words during the week tho. i still think we will have to wait alittle longer for a draw as i think we will see a winner agaist tonight - ive back pompey in the predictions lge 2-1 - click here - so will stand by that.
neither side will be playing for a draw, soit seems unlikely that the result would be a draw. For united, anything other than a win would be catostrophic, for us, we are all expecting to win, even if that is because we are looking through blue tinted glasses.
anyone got any news on sol and mendes yet - are they fit to play do we know?
