Derby vs. Pompey

Pride park

Derby v Pompey

The wait is over, the pre-season complete, and now the time has come for Pompey's new charges to show how far they have come.

Vital Quotes:

Pompey kick-off away from home for the first time in the Premiership, a novelty in its self.

A successful pre-season has passed and now the real mccoy presents its self in the form of last seasons play off winners.

Derby will be hoping to get off to a flier in their quest for survival, but Pompey also know the benefit of points on the board in the early games, especially with the early games we have been dealt this time.

Derby Team News:

Darren Moore and Andy Griffin should both line up against a couple of old mates, Giles Barnes is out for another month, and Robert Earnshaw gets another crack at the Premiership after spells with Norwich and West Brom.

Player to watch: Todd

'He's a right hard bastard Toddy, I'd have him in my team for sure' these were the words that Panorama tried to stitch up Harry Redknapp up for taking a bung, he will have to be up for a scrap alongside Bruno in trying to keep out Pompey's strike force.

Pompey Team News:

Kranjcar is a definite absentee after sustaininf a foot injury, Linvoy is still recovering from close season surgery, and latest rumours report that Lua Lua maybe in Greece discussing a move to Olympiakos, at least this confirms suspicions that his brilliant pre-season form was a stunt to put himself in the shop window.

Its probably going to be Nugent and Benjani upfront, Lua if present should only make the bench, and Kanu has only just returned from the beach.

Player to watch: Nugent

The nugget will be hoping for a running start against his old boss, if he can fir early, who knows how far he can go?

Match Facts & Stats

The last time we met was in the glorious promotion campaign of 2002/03

Pompey won 2-1 at pride park and thrashed the rams 6-2 at fratton in a game where a fan called Richey Cook got up and stormed out at half-time, after Kinkladze had just pulled a goal back screaming 'Pompey have done this to me once to often' little did he expect the second half carnage to follow, ha ha Richey we haven't forgotten!

Ref Watch:

Mike Dean (wirral)

Derby 1 v Portsmouth 3 Get in there!!
top preview as ever mate. it is back, the waiting is over... well i went for a 3-0 pompey win earlier in the week so i am staying with this and goals for lua, nugent and benji.
are paultsmouth has again reminded you within the preview if you have not already made your predictions in the pompey predictions league on this match do it here... you have until 10am sat morning - those of you already in good luck, those not get in while you can.
Are you getting paid extra to mention that prediction league at random times?
nope not a penny, as the prediction lge is nothing to do with anyone esle. you see these online prediction lge's, but ive created my own database so dont get paid anything for it mate, in fact it has and will cost me money! im just using my own personal time to run a prediction lge for something extra on this site to get people involved which is also seeing me give away prizes at the end of it out of my own pocket! so yep, i will keep mentioning it at 'random times' to drill the idea into people's heads to get involved - altho considering i am after predictions for the derby game a mention within the match preview is hardly random is it?
in my prediction i had lua down as a scorer, can i change it? looks like hes buggered off to greece!
Ah.. opening day of the season - I still get the same excited feeling that I used to when I was 10 or 11 ahh... the 70's ... walikng thru the cemetary to get to St.Marys rec.. jumpers for goalposts, socks around your ankles like marinello, six foot two eyes of blue big Paul Went is after you... I really thought Pompey could win everything (even though we were in the old second division... We are in the big time now and although those memories I hold dear (along win Biley scoring against Oxford one Xmas in the 80's and beating the scum to name a few more) I want some new memories - Campbell lifting the FA Cup, Nugent firing us into Europe. Harry as sport personality of the year.. It all begins again today boys .. COME ON YOU BLUES Do us all proud
The mini bus will be here soon,Papers to be read, mobiles at the ready to pass the news of our performance, the sun is shining the M6 and the A50 are clear, this is what living is all about, come on you Blues, hope everyone gets there safe, enjoy the game lads,Play up Pompey.
paultsmouth, go on then mate - the thread was frozen but ive unfrozen it as im not going to the game anyway, so i will keep it open until 1pm - seen as its the first game of the season, so there is still 1 hr to have your say. i think i will change my lua goal also...
i like it Chix - hopefully we can hear more of your thoughts like this :) enjoy the game Owenspompey - or as you will read this after prob - hope it was enjoyed!
2-2. I thought we had them when Utaka put us in front after 83 mins. but that's football you conceed an early and late goal and walk away with a point. Now the really hard work begins 4/5 against the top I getting nervous. Oh well I feel better now Scum down the road have been trashed 4-1 on their own paddock. now that doesn't come any better does it ?
