Bournemouth vs. Pompey

Dean Court

31/7/07

19:30

Cherries v Pompey

Harry Redknapp takes his so far 100% Pompey to more familiar surroundings tonight, almost his back garden in fact!

Vital Quotes:

Kevin Bond has used his Pompey connections to secure a friendly at Dean Court and there will be a host of familiar faces for the Pompey boys.

Darren Anderton now dwells back on the south coast, as do Shaun Cooper and Russell Perret, and also Pompey loanee Jason Pearce.

Bournemouth Team News:

Egyptian trialist Shehata will further press his claims for a contract,as will Millwall striker Hubertz.

Player to watch: Anderton

Who else? Shaggy has a place in Pompey hearts after one blinding season back in 91/92 culminating in the semi-final defeat to Liverpool, and you can be sure he will be well up for this one.

Pompey Team News:

Sean Davis is still a likely absentee, but Linvoy will hoping to take his fitness levels up with a run-out and to celebrate his new deal.

Nugent will be hoping to break his duck against more familiar opposition and to hopefully get the first of many in a blue shirt.

Player to watch: Kranjcar

One of the stars of pre-season so far, and although he hit the winning penalty in the Asia cup will no doubt be gutted not to have played a greater part.
Maybe this is the match to experiment with 3-5-2 Harry?

Match Facts & Stats

Not much recent history lately, but a regular feature less than 10 years ago.

Match Prediction:

Pompey win, good run-out hopefully with a couple of goals to get the strikers up and running ahaed of the real stuff in 2 weeks

Would expect to see a four or five goal rout given the Cherries current squad!

hatrick hero LuaLua...looks like a turn around for him, and maybe this really could be his season to shine...on the other hand, now hes started performing well, we could see him, before he turns grumpy again :) sounds like krunchie got a good goal, and mvuemba also seemed to play well. James and ashdown still unbeaton, although its a shame we had to give away a needless penalty...there goes our pre-sesason clean sheet record...

What an awful first half, changes at half time made a huge difference, we looked like a team and the scoreline shows it. Worryingly Nugent looked awful, really dosen't read our play at all; Hope this was a one off, but as soon as Lua and Benji came on the game up front lit up. Kcunchie, Pedro, Benji and Lua make a formidable attacking force.

intresting to listen to the fans comments re LuaLua, some were desperate for him to fail, some started that way then declared that they always new he'd come good....you know all know the type..... others were generally pleased for him. I am going to go to the game against the foxes with an open m9ind it is after all only pre season but he seems to be putting the effort in AND THE ODD PASS. Benji looks good, Krunchie as well Mveumba a bit too snatchy at the moment but i think games will sort that. Bad luck for Nugent, looked like handball to me. I am not sure we will beat Milans team but i do think Nugent and probably Utaka ( injury permitting) will break their respective ducks. Still want to see that other winger and non ANC participant striker arrive.

Have to agree about a winger russ, moaned alnight about our lack of width! Have to have an honourable mention for O'Brien and Mvumemba tonight, didn't do much wrong, have to admit O'brien has impressed me this Pre-season

we seemed to gain that width when utaka went out wide didnt we until he got injured - so as i have thought all along he will play the majority of his games out wide... o'brien has been a top professional on and off the pitch recently hasnt he - he is alittle unfortunate that he is so far down the picking list, but the greedy side of me would like him to stay, the half that says for him he should go thinks he should...
