Yeovil vs. Pompey

Huish Park

14/7/07

15:00

Yeovil v Pompey

Not Man u, Chelsea or even Ipswich on the menu just yet, but a return for Pompey against a League 1 team nonetheless, and one who will be hoping to build on last seasons play-off disappointment.

Vital Quotes:

A newly sculptured Pompey will to take to the field on Saturday, Pompey have become the fourth biggest spenders in the Premiership so far, and an array of new and expensive talent will be out to show what they can do.

Some old faces obviously remain, but a couple of the new ones will be out to make their mark, two will be playing in England for the first time, and one striker will be making the step up to the Premiership with lofty ambitions, ambitions which he has placed in Harry Redknapps' hands.

Yeovil Team News:

Yeovil have a couple of new faces themselves on show, Marc Bircham, Lloyd Owusu and Jerahl Hughes, and Pompey's recent aquisition Martin Cranie will be returning a club he is more than familiar with, after 12 appearances on loan at Huish park last term.

Player to watch: Bircham

The Canadian international comes after 5 years and 151 games for QPR, and 15 caps for the Canadians, not purest of pedigrees, but he has great experience at this level, and will be out to be the new engine room for the Glovers.

Pompey Team News:

Linvoy, G O'N and Richard Hughes are likely absentees, all have had operations on respective injuries, and Saturday may be just too soon.

Player to watch: Nugent

I could have picked any of the new boys, but Pompet don't sign a current England international very often, and Nuge will be hoping to get his Pompey career off to a flier.

Match Facts & Stats

Not much recent history here, in fact I'm at a loss to remember playing them!

Ref Watch:

Mike Hunt, Flangeford

Match Prediction:

Pompey will be looking for early assertion in their pre-season, but Yeovil won't be walkovers.

Next Fixtures:

Havant & Waterlooville on the 17th

It has not taken long for the season to come around has it ? I hope there are a few of us going down to Yeovil, it is a nice little ground with a good atmosphere, it will be good to see the boys playing again and see the new faces in the Pompey colours. Werent we interested in Bircham once ?
Owenspompey
Can't recall that, but he was quite useful a couple of years back
paultsmouth
DESTROY THEM WITH NUGENT AND UTAKA UP FRONT WITH MUNTARI & TAYLOR SMASHING IN 30 YARD STUNNERS, HAHAHAHAHAHA! ... I'll shut up now.
Lysimachus

plymouth graham

Sorry, but am I the only one who thinks that 'Mike Hunt from Flangeford' is really funny? Please yourselves!

1-0 to yeovil :) ..... ergo our game against H&W last season HAHAHA. ok for all you bettors out there, some might remember i was going to do a lil 'what to bet' thing on and well..... couldnt be bothered! :p well since 13th may ive made over 100 not really betting more than a fiver a go... anyways, im not boasting :p but bookies have got us as joint favs to win the first match against derby, now dont get me wrong we are sometimes woeful away but against derby..... nuge scored for preston against derby so I think we can comfortably beat a team who have signed 4 people of which ive only heard of 2 and know 1 is untried and 1 is average. odds of 2.50 is great value! :)

Apparantly the refs girlfriend is Jenny Taylor. LOL

spoiler

Great to see the boys back. Leaving Lincoln at 6.30 to make sure we get a nice drink before the game. Play Up Pompey !!!!
lincspfcfan
Lincspfcfan, there are a couple of good pubs in a little town called Gillingham, no not the one in Kent, and there are some very good boozers in Yeovil itself. I will speak to some lads coming up from Pompey and find out where we are going pre-match if you want.
Owenspompey
Lincs, the Beehive near the Huish itself or the JD Wetherspoons in town. Hope to see you there Plauy up Pompey
Owenspompey
3rd year against yoevil if i'm not mistaken, and every time we go there it is an awesome day out. I'll be there. The nearest pub is a bit far though, although maybe there will be a tent?
Midge
Rumour has it from the other boards that there may well be upwards of a few thousand fans going down. In which case there will be more away support than home!!
sneakay
A good payday for Yeovil no doubt! Lets hope the newly formed squad can put on a good show!
Tantona
It will be a great day out, and if there are a thousand fans down there what an occasion. Just like the old times Pompey on Tour !!
Owenspompey
well then what pub then gents? 3 of us coming up from Plymouth will join you in the beeehive or the W/spoons
plymouth graham
We will be in both just find the Norhern Blues flag and you are more than welcome to join us for a pre-season beer.
Owenspompey
As a regular traveller i will be there! Lol its one of the few away games i anticipate us winning.
russellm
i need to get to a bookies to waste my regular 10 on who will score first :-)
russellm
ah...thats easy :) ... itlle be muntari...no, wait...maybe nugent...oh, actuakly, it could be mendes...or taylor...maybe gary o'neil, or even utaka if he plays...ok, it could be anyone, but im not betting on a yovil playor...
pompeycarpet
Who cares providing we score, the way it is put it on Jammo to slam one home from 80 yards, he still wouldnt be recalled for England if he scored each week. I cant believe we start again tomorrow.
Owenspompey
^my mitake, utaka wont play, so i wouldnt go betting on him!!!
pompeycarpet
I remember we got beat by Southend last pre-season so we cannot be overconfident. Perhaps a 1-1 draw will not draw any conclusions. I presume they still have that infamous sloping pitch to contend with.
pompeygray
Well lads good start, first game and we did ok didnt we ? Usually we are all talking about our shortfalls, but not today, well done to all the lads who travelled i thought it was a good day out and well worth going. Even Lua Lua looked like he could be bothered and i thought Distin looked very good.
Owenspompey
Graham, were you there we went to the Beehive and met a few Pompey Fans in there, and also in the Wetherspoons for our dinner, long bloody way to Yeovil from the North West, great day out though, and we are like everybody else and looking forward to Hong Kong and Leicester and the new season. Anyone going down on Wednesday or Thursday ?
