Yeovil v Pompey

Yeovil
vs.
Pompey

Huish Park

14/7/07

15:00

Not Man u, Chelsea or even Ipswich on the menu just yet, but a return for Pompey against a League 1 team nonetheless, and one who will be hoping to build on last seasons play-off disappointment.

Vital Quotes:

A newly sculptured Pompey will to take to the field on Saturday, Pompey have become the fourth biggest spenders in the Premiership so far, and an array of new and expensive talent will be out to show what they can do.

Some old faces obviously remain, but a couple of the new ones will be out to make their mark, two will be playing in England for the first time, and one striker will be making the step up to the Premiership with lofty ambitions, ambitions which he has placed in Harry Redknapps' hands.

Yeovil Team News:

Yeovil have a couple of new faces themselves on show, Marc Bircham, Lloyd Owusu and Jerahl Hughes, and Pompey's recent aquisition Martin Cranie will be returning a club he is more than familiar with, after 12 appearances on loan at Huish park last term.

Player to watch: Bircham

The Canadian international comes after 5 years and 151 games for QPR, and 15 caps for the Canadians, not purest of pedigrees, but he has great experience at this level, and will be out to be the new engine room for the Glovers.

Pompey Team News:

Linvoy, G O'N and Richard Hughes are likely absentees, all have had operations on respective injuries, and Saturday may be just too soon.

Player to watch: Nugent

I could have picked any of the new boys, but Pompet don't sign a current England international very often, and Nuge will be hoping to get his Pompey career off to a flier.

Match Facts & Stats

Not much recent history here, in fact I'm at a loss to remember playing them!

Ref Watch:

Mike Hunt, Flangeford

Match Prediction:

Pompey will be looking for early assertion in their pre-season, but Yeovil won't be walkovers.

Next Fixtures:

Havant & Waterlooville on the 17th

It has not taken long for the season to come around has it ? I hope there are a few of us going down to Yeovil, it is a nice little ground with a good atmosphere, it will be good to see the boys playing again and see the new faces in the Pompey colours. Werent we interested in Bircham once ?

1-0 to yeovil :) ..... ergo our game against H&W last season HAHAHA. ok for all you bettors out there, some might remember i was going to do a lil 'what to bet' thing on and well..... couldnt be bothered! :p well since 13th may ive made over 100 not really betting more than a fiver a go... anyways, im not boasting :p but bookies have got us as joint favs to win the first match against derby, now dont get me wrong we are sometimes woeful away but against derby..... nuge scored for preston against derby so I think we can comfortably beat a team who have signed 4 people of which ive only heard of 2 and know 1 is untried and 1 is average. odds of 2.50 is great value! :)
