Pompey welcome Scunny to a cold South Coast this afternoon, as the Blues look to forget a very dismal previous week of 3 losses in 3. It's back to Fratton though, where none of these defeats came, and hopefully where the turnaround is made. Scunthorpe are sat dead midway in the table- 12th with 24 points. Pompey are still sat in 16th with 20. The Blues can however wriggle up to 13th with a win today, if you Wycombe, Hartlepool and Mansfield all fail to win today. People are also forgetting we have a game a game in hand too after Pompey's game was abandoned due to the horrific weather at Fratton against Wycombe last month.

Vital Quotes: 'Boss calls for Blues unity'

Rightfully so, manager Guy is calling for a performance with more heart today after the 3 previous fixtures showed minimal signs of commitment. He expects the squad to go back to giving it 110% as they look to get their season back on track today in front of the Fratton Faithful. Guy's position as manager was assured after the nightmare week by the board, a decision I personally feel is right and it's his job to now repay the faith, with the players starting it with getting us back to winning ways.

Pompey Team News:

There's a striking dilemma for Pompey as we only have 2 registered forwards definitely OK to play today. David Connolly and Tom Craddock are both fully fit after recent injuries but Patrick Agyemang and Ryan Bird are both nursing injuries from last week.
Agyemang was forced off early against Wimbledon last Saturday with a thigh injury and his replacement, Bird, was forced off late on with concussion.
Pompey do however have new boy Dan Potts ready for a debut after the teenager joined on loan from West Ham in midweek for a month. He is set to go straight into the side at left-back as that area continues to be a dodgy spot for Pompey.

Player to watch: Dan Potts

I think it's fair to say that Potts is expected to play well today, what with the supporters and players down from recent thumpings. Potts is a talented left-back however- he's come up through the decent West Ham academy system and he may be signing a longer-duration deal here if he impresses in his month. Come on Daniel!

Scunthorpe Team News:

The Iron sacked manager Brian Laws in midweek as they look for their first win in 5. Their most recent result was a 2-1 defeat to non-league side Grimsby in the FA Cup, so spirits are also pretty down in the Scunny camp.
Recent loan signing Reuben Noble-Lazarus is hoping to return to action against the Blues today, as is Eddie Nolan who has been out since September. Matt Sparrow remains out however with a hamstring injury.

Player to watch: Sam Winnall

7 goals have been scored by Winnall so far this campaign, and assist too from the striker. He's the only one who really seems to firing for the Iron right now, so no more sloppy mistakes can be made at the back if Pompey wish to keep him out.

Match Facts & Stats

Pompey have met Scunthorpe 22 times in the history of the clubs, winning 8 and losing 6. The most recent of results came earlier this year, when Pompey were defeated 2-1 at Scunthorpe in February in League One. In the September before that though, Pompey were 2-1 victors. I'm hoping we get at least the same result today!

Ref Watch:

Andy Townshend

Match Prediction:

I've got a 3-1 feeling- it's just being Fratton is always a bonus, as you have at least 14,000 every week IN LEAGUE TWO who sing until the day ends. Craddock will pop up with 2 for me, and Wallace to grab the other. PUP!

Next Fixtures: Pompey vs Southend

Fratton is the scene again on Tuesday evening as Southend travel to the blue of Hampshire. They are currently 5th in the table so are definitely a solid side. But when Pompey are at Fratton, it's makes it so much harder for the opposition!

Hope you are right on all counts Cal, a win is a MUST. Tbh tho I think this win needs to be a convincing one (not in the 'trashing' sense convincing way) as well tho...
I have not hidden my disappointment that Whittingham felt that Potts was needed to give us the 'balance needed' when we have had Butler sat on the bench all season, now playing for Aldershot, but he definitely must hit the ground running - if he doesnt Whittingham will face even more pressure and a backlash. Pressure on Whitts and young Potts eh!

I just want a good performance where we are the dominant force! And I do agree about Butler, I think he needs another chance- he's a good player and shouldn't be thrown aside as it would be a gigantic waste. Potts will need to start well though! PUP!

With a 'lack' of strikers would love to see us play with 1 up top today. 4-2-3-1 with Jed in behind Connolly would be great, they tend to play a 4-4-2 by the looks of it and that extra man in the middle would surely help sure up the defense and dominate the possession something we haven't done in all too long!

I will be there today, without my lucky mascot of a daughter. Expecting to win & certainly an upsurge in performance. Let's hope the recent sacking of their manager doesn't give them a lift otherwise GW may be feeling the strain!!!
