Pompey welcome the Lilywhites to Fratton whilst looking for their first win in 9. PNE sit 8 points ahead of Pompey in the league table and 6 places higher after losing only 3 of their last 13. Pompey head into the game on the back of a well deserved 2-2 draw with league leaders Tranmere last weekend and are desperate for their first three points in 7 weeks.
Ridiculous? I'd say so as the case that could make or break Pompey has been put off for a month. Trust or Bust is seemingly the tone at the moment and it could of been possible the case could of been resolved by today but whilst it is postponed, we are left to ponder on the thought of our survival. However, hopefully the fans will have something to cheer about this afternoon and that the players will take this as a chance to really entertain the fans.
Guy Whittingham has a full squad to choose from ahead of today's clash with Lee Williamson fully recovering from a calf problem. Gabor Gyepes and Mustapha Dumbuya both made the starting line up against league leaders Tranmere last weekend and are set to continue. Simon Eastwood is set to keep his place in goal after impressing against Rovers. Darrell Russell and Jake Jervis both have a little more pride to play for today as they face their old club. Other than this, no new Pompey news.
Jervis hasn't starred in the Pompey starting line up since joining on loan from Birmingham but may make it today after scoring a stunning equaliser against Tranmere last week. His pace and strength may aid the Blues in a much needed win today and could be a new catalyst in a Pompey revival.
Preston manager Graham Westley doesn't expect Nicky Wroe and Lee Holmes to make the 18-man squad for today's fixture after the pair have struggled in recent weeks. Wroe has missed numerous training sessions with a knee injury and Holmes is battling illness. Scott Laird is still out with a broken leg as is Keith Keane who has a knee injury. Both players are out long term. Akpo Sodje will not be with squad after leaving immediately after rejecting a contract extension.
After the departure of Akpo Sodje and the injury doubt Nicky Wroe, the goalscoring has been left to Beavon. He has 5 goals so far this season and is needed to step up his game for goals today.
Pompey don't have a good record against Preston at all- Out of 65 encounters, Preston have come away victors 31 times compared to Pompey's 16. The sides have also resulted in a stalemate 18 times and Pompey can only show a 25% win rate against the Lilywhites.
Justin Young
3-0 Pompey. It may seem unlikely but the tide is turning form-wise and it's only a matter of time before 3 points comes Pompey's way. Jake Jervis to score his first home goal and an entertaining performance from the Blues.
Pompey travel to Hartlepool United who are bottom of League One. A win should come of it as United only have 9 points on the table ahead of today's fixtures. Pompey will travel with a win on their backs hopefully! WIN OR LOSE, UP THE BLUES!
